|
|
Hwasung (close to Suwon) is a small city famous for a serial killers, since 10 years ago. These serial killers targetted women only.
Now, there is another one. This time, it may be kidnapping or killing, they don't know since they can't find the bodies. THis time, he/she also targets only women.
These kind of alerts usually don't come out in Engish anywhere, so I am giving a warning here. Be especially careful when you go out at night, especially if you are a female. |

Not unless you get busy.
It's like Ilsanman says: Hwasung County has become a byword for serial kilings in Korea, and it's been so for quite a while. Some years back, I used to kid around with K-girlfriends, told them my employer was relocating me to Hwasung--
" I will NEVER visit you there! "
It's the Mecca of serial murderers.
It's the "serial killer hub of NE Asia"!

I think it's just the one serial killer goin' at it for decades. The ones they caught were framed. The Chief of police did it. Maybe an influential judge. |

The movie Memories of Murder was based on some of the killings there for those who didn't know. |

Make sure you take those Karate classes that are offered everywhere. When you see a suspicious character approaching you, and you'll know, believe me, kick him right between his legs. Do it with gusto! |

I interviewed in that area. Good thing I decided against it! So what happened recently? How many people are missing? How recent was this? |

I hope I'm never lost and ask you for directions- you might think I'm acting 'suspiciously' and make me sterile. |

I specifically remember an incident not so long ago, where there was a serial killer targetting women, but of course it wasn't reported in English. A lot of foreign women were pretty angry that they weren't informed.
Now that I am alerting people, the jokes are a bit out of place. Shall I just do the Korean thing and not alert people next time? |

Man that sucks. No anti-stalking laws contribute to this problem. As if women didn't have enough problems in this country already. |

I live just outside of Hwasung City and I have heard about this. As you said OP, from what I've heard, 10 years ago a number of women were murdered. Nothing happened for a long time and now more women are starting to disappear again. I was told by a Korean friend of mine that the women that are being targeted now seem to be in their late 30's or early 40's. Anyway, I'm not sure how accurate this information is. |

No no, I was told that it has the highest rate of murders for any Korean city. I'm in Cheongju, btw, some of us outside of Seoul know the difference |

Sounds like scaremongering to me.
I will assume this is all BS until I see some stats or links to articles. |

But that's nothing. Just the tippy tip of the Titanic-sinking iceberg of heinous criminality that goes on down in that county. That's just what the powers that be can't manage to hush up & hide from public view. |
