I have been to two dentists ( One in Chuncehon in Kangwon ) and another in Seoul. The first dentist i went to took two x-rays, proceeded to beat the *hit out of my top molars and then said "You OK, Pain in your head". My university secretary was kind enough to accompany me to this dentist ( her family dentist ). I gave the Dentist a quizical look and she interpreted further , "Your pain is pysychological". I was like WTF. I thanked them both and made an appointment the following week for a dentist in seoul. He was quite kind, and didn't even charge me for his services. He said there was some slight decay in the area but the pain was not a result of the decay. At this point I felt utterly exasperated.

It seems dental care here is not geared towards prevention but rather fixing problems after they develop. These cavities are small but are indeed cavitites. I asked about a cleaning and he replied that my teeth were healthy and didn't need to be cleaned Shocked In america we are supposed to get cleanings every 6 months.

I have two small cavities on my back top molars on the left and right side. Anyways, every few hours I will get a slight painful feeling from that area.

Has anyone else had this experience? Korean dentists not fixing cavities unless they progress far into the root? Either way i am frustrated and the pain is coming with increasing frecuency.

I went to Trueden at La Festa in Ilsan, in December last year, & had root canal work & crowns on 2 teeth. Expensive (700k won), but zero complaints. I thought it might have been the acid in all the kimchi & pickles making my teeth play up but no there was definite infection. Also had a cold & flu since October, that just wouldn't clear up, until I got the dental work done, then it was gone in a week.

They spoke good English & the dentist had trained in the USA.

www.trueden.com (there's an 'English' button top right)

031-906-0700/903-2874 They were on the 2nd floor, above Burger King. Take the subway to Jeongbalsan Station (Line No.3), exit to Lotte Mart & head west towards Ilsan Lake Park. (2-3 blocks).
