Anyone had any problems entering Korea on a one-way ticket without a job? I want to get a return ticket from here in Korea, then go travelling and return, so is it safer to wait until I have a job confirmed with the E2 visa before I arrive? |

This has been asked and answered about a zillion times before.
Legally, you are REQUIRED to have either a residential visa (E2, F-series, etc) OR an onward/return ticket.
Immigration almost NEVER checks unless there is something about you that perks their suspicion.
If an airline carries you into Korea and you are refused entry on a visa waiver stamp AND you to not have return passage it is the AIRLINE who gets fined and bears the cost of returning you home.
For this reason it is usually the airline who will usually check to make sure you meet the visa free entry requirements and REFUSE to board you if you do not meet them.
Whether or not you get checked depends on the clerk at the airline desk. If you are lucky, they do not ask or check. If you are not lucky, then you will be required to purchase onward passage before they board you.
Worst case - you have to buy a REFUNDABLE ticket from Korea to Japan.
Best case - nobody checks.

That's how I came to Korea the first time. I booked a one-way flight to Seoul and when immigration people asked me where I was going, I just shoed them a friend's address in Seoul. They didn't ask for it, I just showed it because I was a bit nervous since my friend had told me that it could be troublesome if I went to Korea without a return ticket. Anyway, everything went fine... at least it did for me, but I've never met anyone who had trouble or knew someone who did. Just check with your airline, and if they say it's ok, then don't worry. You are allowed to be a tourist and then want to buy a ticket from Korea to go to Japan or even take the ferry from Korea to go to Japan, so that could explain why you arrive without a return ticket. |
