anybidy have this problem here: I have a US ATM card with a Visa logo (check card) I go to a merchant to use it as a credit card, it comes back "declined", I give them my US Visa card and it works fine. I then go to an ATM and use my check card as an ATM card and it works fine there.
I call my bank in the US, ithe card working fine as credit card there (I've even used it online to buy stuff) and they cant figure out where the problem is coming from. Its happened at 4 different merchants in 4 different parts of Seoul.
Really wierd. |

It might be something about the stores or the creditcard network they use. At least thats the only explanation I can figure out. One of the stores I shop at regularly, won't take my visa credit card, but will take my visa debit/credit card. Both cards work everywehre else. Strangee! |

I had a similar problem at a Lowe's in the KC area. One customer having a problem at one store just wasn't worth looking into. -Jeff |

We were in a nice resturant in SF a few years ago and this also happened. The waiter came back with this really snotty attitude and said "your card had been declined" and thought we didnt have the money to pay for the meal. Well we had another card that worked fine.
Of course I walked to the ATM across the street and got cash with no problem and it showed we had like $5k in the bank, wanted to rub the waiters nose in that. Called the bank later and said they were having a system wide glitch
this time though they cant figure it out, they checked with their ATM dept, all was fine and in fact it was used as a CC a few hours earlier in the states to pay for a bill |

Keep this in mind as well.. Korea has a brand called visa.. its off one of their check cards, but has no relation to visa credit card company that processes the cards for debit or credit like in the states. I learned this while trying to get that type of card in Korea that i could use in the states. It doesnt exist here yet.
but on another note.. if any of you are military or dependents of military USAA rocks.. you should be able to qualify for it. Free worldwide atm use and wire transfers into the account are free as well. |
