Can this be easily done from Korea? In other words, can I buy US and Canadian stocks and bonds through a Korean bank? I might as well make some money while I am over here. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know. The google search is more than disapointing.

Open an account with Interactive Brokers www.interactivebrokers.com, same as trading from North America.

No advice, just execution with cheap commissions. IB is the most popular option for professional retail traders.

You can open an online account with a gazillion different brokerage firms from North America.

Trade online, and make sure to properly file when tax time comes around.

You'll be dinged a capital gains tax, and if you're American and invest in Canada, you'll get double-dinged, and vice versa for Canadians.

If you have a smart accountant who cares about your records, she'll be able to set it up so that you only pay capital gains tax to one government.

I've heard that you can invest through Samsung Securities here, but I wouldn't bother, because the tax filing for a North American will be a paper-nightmare--three government all wanting a piece of your money.
