You are right about the date.

I won't celebrate it. My parents aren't Korean.

My kids are making parents' day cards in English.

The front of the card says "Happy Parents' Day". Then they can decorate it with pictures and such. On the inside left of the card, I found a little poem on the net (yeah, I "borrowed" it), that is super cute. Below the poem they write "I love you". On the right hand side, they paste on a tracing of their hand that they wrote their name on, and decorated.

The poem goes like this:

These little hands

These little hands can give a hug,
Pat-a-cake or throw a ball.
They put smudges on the wall,
Because I'm only just so tall.
They love to clap or hold your hand,
Whenever you can play.
But when I'm grown and far away,
These little hands with you will stay.

I showed it to some of the Korean teachers here, and explained it to them, and they all got teary eyed, and said the last line was so great. I had only planned to do this with 1st through 3rd grade, but some of the 5th grade teachers loved it, and asked if their kids could make one too. I'm going to make them write out the poem, rather than pasting on a copy like the younger ones did.

Anyway, that's my plan.
Smile

Parent's day

I think you're lucky only one of your parents is coming. When we had Parents' Day a whole mess of them would come. Only one should be relatively simple to manage.

No school for us. Most of my students will be celebrating it by studying for midterms.

I was expecting a line in there about child abuse for some reason.

The card is a little too gay for my classes, but a card of some sort seems in order.

Haha I never said it wasn't sappy to the max, but the Korean teachers are all over it. I'm just playing to the masses. Smile

My kids made cards and us teachers helped. We ended class 30 minutes early, so woo-hoo to that!
