I'm currently working in S. Korea at a public school in Bucheon. It's my first teaching job.
I now know working at a public school in Seoul means you get 21 days vacation, instead of the 14 days I have available, working in Gyeonggi.
Every job advert for p.s. jobs in Seoul seem to state you must attend the orientation in late August and start work in September.
Is that absolutely essential or is it possible to get a job at a p.s. in Seoul, at any other time of the year, beside early September?!!
One other thing, I am going to teach a summer camp in July. How much do you get paid for that, roughly speaking? I left my contract in the U.K. It is a standard p.s. school contract for Gyeonggi e.g. 300,000 taken out of my salary each month for the first 3 months as a housing deposit, 22 hrs teaching a week, 9-5pm etc.
I think I will choose to work in Seoul for my second year in S. Korea. More holidays and being very close to Itaewon would be ideal for me! I love the food and call me shallow, but I think it sounds cool to say I live and work in Seoul (oh dear...ahem ahem) |

You can get a job starting at the beginning in March, you'd need to apply around December. There will still be an orientation.
Many SMOE camps pay a regular salary and if it's sleepaway camp they pay you 72,000 won a day on top. |

The workshop thing is a sweet benefit for going and exchanging ideas with others...I think the idea of getting away for 4 days is good in many ways...There are other times of hiring in, but the two major times are September and March since this coincides with the semester and end of year breaks for the schools...Start doing you homework quickly if you are looking at a September change, because many of the positions are already being filled... |

If you left your copy of your contract in the Uk just ask you supervising teacher for a copy.
It's good to have if they ask you to work overtime, you can confirm the overtime rate in the contract and also other benefits you are entitled to.
