You ought to be able to take it to the gate, then when you get to the door of hte plane, they will put it in cargo, then it will be waiting for you at your destination when you deplane. So, it won't be physically in the plane with you, but you won't need it. YOu'll have it for all the time you get off and on teh plane though.

my plan for this trip, if it's possible, is for my wife and i to bring everything we need in two carry on bags. (new orleans in the summer doesn't require a lot of clothes)
when we transfer planes in houston, i don't want to have to pick up any luggage from the carousel to bring through customs. we don't have a large window of time between flights, and i don't want to get stuck in houston.
would the stroller be there straight off the plane, or is it something i'd have to pick up off the carousel?
thanks.

You will use it from flight check-in to the boarding gate. They will tag it at check-in and take it from you at the door of the plane.

They will return it to you at the door of the plane when you get to your destination.

We take ours all the time and our little one has flown more in her first 9 months than most people fly in a lifetime.

Babies (even on FREE travel) are entitled to 10kg baggage + 1 collapsible stroller + the diaper bag. They also make allowances for liquids and stuff in the diaper bag for clearing through security.

However, that kind of question could always be answered by the airline you're going to fly with.

Just don't forget that you (not the baby) aren't allowed any liquids in bottles over 3ounces/100 mL in carryon luggage. Even if you are nearly finished with your regular size tube of toothpaste, you can't take it on b/c hte container is bigger than the allowed amount. And eveything liquid/gel has to fit in a quart size (thats the reg sandwich size) ziploc bag. If you are cool with buying eveything in the states, then your fine, but jsut wanted to remind you.
