Hey everyone,
Does anyone know where I can get stock (chicken, vegetable, fish) for cooking, in Seoul? It doesn't seem to be sold in regular Korean marts.
Thanks guys,

One of the foreign food grocers in Itaewon, I think the one behind Geckos, has a large selection of dried and canned soups. I think I saw boullion cubes there, and maybe even canned stock.
Alternately you can roast a chicken in your rice cooker, and then when you've eaten all the meat you can make your own stock with the bones and skin...easy enough to do, you can read how on wikipedia, or do this: add lots of garlic and an onion or three and a bunch of salt and water, maybe a chunk of ginger, some lemon if you're into it, and then simmer it for about four hours on your stovetop. Then freeze the stuff, after you skim the fat, and you should be stocked up for a little while. Dunno if I'd do that with a fish though...your rice cooker might be forever fishy afterwards. |

Thanks for that.
I'd also like to buy some fallafel and houmus. Any idea if that's available anywhere? |

Maybe the supermarket behind Geckos has that stuff. If not them, I'd bet the south asian grocery up by what-the-book, also in Itaewon, will have dried falafel and homous mixes.
I guess if you were super industrious you could get some tahini (sesame paste) and dried chickpeas (I know they got that at the south asian market) and make your own, if you buy a little hand-crank food processor. At least, I think I saw tahini there...anyways, best luck to you, hope you find what you need. |
