My fiancee and I are currently living in Korea and working at a good Hagwan. We love everything about our situation, except our hours. We work 2-10 pm and would prefer to work during the day and have our nights free. We teach 5th-8th graders, so we understand these are the hours we must work for this age range. Our contract is up in January and we are going to do a second year after taking a month off. So, here are our two questions.
1) Do teachers at all kindergarten age hagwans work during the day and get off between 4-6?
2) We like our location in Bundang, what are the odds of us landing jobs at a public school in our location, keep in mind we will be coming back to Korea in February.
Thanks in advance for the advice! |

Not all kindy teachers get out between 4 and 6. I've taught at two kindy hogwans.
1) I taught Kindy starting at 10 and finished at 7:30 or 8:30 three days a week and 5:30 two days a week. This was on a 33 class contract.
2) I taught Kindy starting at 10 and finished at 8:30 or 9:30 3 days a week and 5:30 two days a week. This was 40 hour contract.
If you really want daytime hours, then work at a public school. If you went around to all the schools in your area and personaly handed them your resume, it couldn't hurt. EPIK seems to place at random, so there's no gurantee you would get placed in Bundang if you went EPIK. The public school year starts in March, so February isn't a bad time. I would go ahead and hand out your resume before you go and see if you get any takers though. |

Since you are here already, get someone to help you make your cover letter and resume bilingual.
Take it to all the schools in your neighborhood in December.
You WILL get an offer, do your interview and be able to take your break in January/February and start work at the end of February. |

No. Many work until 7-8 pm or later with split shifts. |
