This is for everyone who is going to the public school training seminar next week in Suwon.
Teacher's Day is Tuesday, so many Korean public school teachers will have the entire day off. We aren't so lucky, as the day will start with a 50-minute lecture on Korean culture.
Surely there will be a question and answer session at some point during the day, hopefully during the culture lecture. When this happens, raise your hand and ask something like this:
"A rule of Korean culture is to show respect for teachers, so why was this scheduled on Teacher's Day?"
The person who answers the question will probably pass the buck to some unknown Korean beaurocrat, but we should all just keep rephrasing the question over and over. It will be funny.
If you are down with this, please reply. |

What would be even funnier if the person replied "You're not a teacher you're a teaching assistant" |

It would be funny, but I certainly don't feel like I am a teaching assistant, especially when the KT has no freakin' control over the class, and unfortunately I have to resort to shouting in order to get the class to be quiet. I control the entire structure of the class, and the only thing the KT's do is translate. They don't take much initiative though, which pisses me off |

Please explain how and why this is disrespectable to teachers, and good luck. |

Most likely scheduled that way for convenience (not of the participant of course) which is the same way that things are done here in US.
But if you read into it then you will see that you will not be receiving the same respect as a Korean teacher by being a warm body, I mean English teacher. |
