How much does a situation like this hamper one's social life? I will be new to Seoul, and while I consider myself to be friendly and personable, I'm not sure how easy it would be to make foreign/a large number of friends in a situation such as this. Does anyone have input? I'd hate to be lonely and miserable in an unfamiliar place.

What outlets do foreigners have to meet other foreigners? Keep in mind that I know no one in Korea.

Newbie AND the only foreigner in a SMALL hakwon???

You are a sucker for punishment, aren't you?

At least you will have your weekends free to get out and socialize in Seoul. Be thankful you are not out in the sticks somewhere.

I am the only waegook at an elementary school in a sort of small city. Most of the kids treat me like I'm a celebrity; the others scheme to have me offed or at least humiliated in front of everybody whenever they get the chance.

Try to make friends at school and hang at the nearest foreigner club or bar on the weekends even if it is an hour away from your town.

PM me if you wanna meet up for a beer and a bourbon with some nice local folks and waeguks in my town. It's not far from you at all.

It's better to be the only foreign teacher than to work with foreign teachers who are losers.

Who wants to socialise with the people you work with? There are plenty of ways to make friends, and since you're in Seoul you'll be filling a new address book every week.

This was me two years ago and I LOVED it. I didn't have any close friends in the town I lived in but I made sure come Friday night, I was on a bus to Seoul finding sports clubs, drinking teams and getting amongst it. You just have to put yourself out there, in no time I had an awesome social circle and massive weekends. Come Sunday night, I would look forward to coming home and relaxing in my little town and putting in a few sweet hours in my little Hakwon. It can work out awesomely. Don't sweat it.
