To prepare young Koreans for a World Cup victory and to provide a "real" activity to use English, why aren't there English only sports programs in Korea? If I were a Korean business man or an F2 holder, I would start a basketball, soccer or baseball leauge for young Koreans.
Same rules, except students can't speak Korean. If a team violates this rule too manyt times, the other team is awarded a point. I think this would be a lot more effective than a thirty minute walk through an English Village. Perhaps this would work in rural areas.
Also, why aren't there more English game shows for children. I have seen that goofy teacher on the Korean TV station (arriang station-I forget), but as my students say, "he is bored and his show is bored." I had a montly TV spot in Virgin Islands called The Teacher Is In. If I could make science fun, why cant Koreans make learning English fun on TV.
Same games or Spinoffs could be played on TV that are often played in classrooms throughout Korea. Bingo, Pictionary, Jeopardy, Grammar Basketball (its my game), BattleShip, 20 questions.
English Education doesn't have to be bored and not funny. |
