What are some of the best alternate news sources out there? Nothing too heavily biased in one way or the other, mind you (if that's possible). I'd just like to see what the majors aren't printing. |

What by the way is wrong with combining NPR, PBS, New York Times, Washington Post, Christian-Science Monitor, CNN, BBC, The Economist, and The Guardian when looking for news information and analysis?
That would seem to represent quite a broad spectrum and would indeed by comprehensive enough.
What kind of information are you looking for...? What do you think is out there that these professional, reliable, and conscientious sources do not scour the Earth for and report...?
In any case, if you want more, perhaps you ought to consider getting into Hamm radio and actually talking to people yourself. My neighbor while growing up used to talk to people and ships all over the world a few hours every night. Indeed, forums like these serve a similar function.

Economist + a random collection of blogs works for me.
http://headheeb.blogmosis.com/ is great for third world news you won't see most other places. |

I agree with Gopher (once again) that reading across a number of publications is the best way to garner insight into current events. There is no single best source.
That said, I have always found the foreign coverage of The Christian Science Monitor to be exemplary. The NYT used to be reputable; not any more. It now has a clearly defined agenda, sadly enough.
The Economist is also a good read. |

I tend to use "www.onlinenewspapers.com" as it seems to have tons of newspapers and I tend to read a few. I tend to browse Israeli newspapers and then browse other middle eastern ones and see how both views are presented.
I also read a mixture of left and right newspapers to get a view. I would recommend it as a good site. |

Here are two good places for different views on stories that are current in the news, or for coverage that you won't find elsewhere:
http://www.fair.org/index.php
http://www.publicintegrity.org/default.aspx
I have found both these sites to be invaluable sources of information.
The Christian Science Monitor is definitely a great baseline of objective reporting to build on when following international (and national) issues. Their coverage is usually in-depth and coherent. Don't let the name of the paper put you off.

THE NEW WORLD DISORDER
Food supplements targeted by trilateral deal
Mexico put in charge as U.S., Canada agree to follow
Posted: April 4, 2007 1:00 a.m. Eastern
By Jerome R. Corsi
 2007 WorldNetDaily.com
John Hammell
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission have agreed to a Trilateral Cooperation Charter with counterparts in Canada and Mexico under the auspices of NAFTA and the "Security and Prosperity Partnership" of North America that will crack down on public access to food supplements and vitamins
"The purpose is to make an end run around any domestic law that interferes with food and drug multi-national corporate profits," John Hammell, a critic of the plan, told WND.
Hammell is the founder of International Advocates for Health Freedom, an advocacy group created to fight globalists' efforts to regulate alternative health treatments, including herbs, dietary supplements, and vitamins.

One other interesting way to find alternative news is to use Google's automatic translator to look at foreign language sites. The translation will be awkward but when you come across an interesting story (usually it's still good enough that you have an idea what it's about) you then do a keyword search on Google news to find the same story in English or another language you might know. |

Why don't you just stop the facade of the hate and just openly admit you want to suck on SM's rod yet feel shame, and hide it in hostility.
Like dd does with me. But he may not! |

PROFILES IN COURAGE
These kinda people really got balls.
Targets of dark sabotage & cyber-terror, it appears their show is now no longer broadcasting.
Hmmmm ... guess they effectively managed to accomplish all that they needed to
I salute them!
