Britain, a liberal land, has seen a man forced from his job primarily as a result of a paper deciding it was a sensation that he was gay |

I'm not up on my British English, but is "lie to court" the same as "lying under oath"? It sounds like he got outsted because he lied about being gay. -Jeff |

No he didn't lie about being gay. His lie? He lied about how he met his gay lover. He claimed he met him jogging because he was too shy to explain that he'd met him through an escort webservice. He lied after being hounded by a paper, who thought that outing him would make a great stroy.
Why did he feel he had to lie about it. And why did the paper feel it was so worthwhile chasing the story about him being gay, here in the 21st century? |

Unfortunatly there is still a great deal of stigma about our culture. Many people either have no idea about it or have disdain for what they think is perverted. For most straight people the idea of being able to meet online, in a bathhouse, in a movie theatre, bookstore or streetcorner or park for sex is so uncommon.
I have no problem telling people where I met my boyfirends. Its also common that many straight men feel jealous about the fact that we (gays) have to work so little for sex and straight guys, at the very least, have to buy a drink, lol. |

Because religious people are scared of homosexuals. Full stop. Final Answer. Next topic.
BUT, in this case, the dude lied. He was an excellent CEO. But he lied. He shouldn't have felt the need to lie, and that is our fault, but he lied.
There is a "glass ceiling" for homosexuals in business. |

You forget that many non-religious people are also against gay people, too. Wasn't someone who championed abstinence in the U.S. fired or something for going to some escort service? |

Thanks Adventurer. I thought that was a strange retort on BWJD's part. I've met more than a few homophobes in my time, and none of them claimed to be opposed to gays on religious grounds. Don't forget that Britain is not a very religious country. If the tabloids were catering for the religious minority, they wouldn't sell many copies. |

This political manouvre reminds me of what happened to the last American president. They didn't try to bust him for cheating; they tried to bust him for lying. |
