Any experience with sending and / or receiving packages to / from Canada?
I sent a package on Monday April 23, from a town north of Toronto, to a city near Seoul. Here we are on Friday, May 11, and still nothing.
I mailed it from a Canada post outlet. I paid extra for air-mail. It was a very light package, and the postage came to $26.00, which seemed like a lot. I filled out an insurance slip and a declaration of the package contents for customs.
Fourteen business days later, the package has still not been received. I looked on the "Canada Post" website. According to that site, airmail packages should arrive in 8 to 12 business days. But 14 have passed!
Also, I just put "Korea" on the address. Not "South Korea". Would that make a big difference?
Also, if the address is not written in the Korean language, does it take a long time for Koreapost to translate it? How long?
Is there a lot of theft by Koreapost employees?
Thanks for any help you can provide me. |

I have sent or had sent to me some parcels from Australia and from the US. Most took a few days longer than I expected.
I read somewhere that where the address is written in English rather than in Korean script that can slow the delivery of the parcel down once it gets to Korea. With parcels which need to go through customs there is the possibility of a delay while it goes through that stage as well.
I know there are some postage options which allow you to track where the parcel is ... If you have a tracking number it might be worthwhile seeing where it is up to ...
At this stage I wouldn't be panicking but I probably would try to track where the parcel is up to if that option is there.

Don't all packages have to go through customs?
How long would a package to get to you, airmail? |

Heck, I once had a very bad experience with Canada Poste sending something to the United States. Canada Poste was extremely slow.
A former friend sent my diploma by regular mail and it took 2 1/2 weeks.
It took longer than one would normally expect. I ended up paying 50 bucks for an extra copy of my diploma, because they took forever to get it to me, and then it showed up. I don't know if what you sent got lost, but it is very possible it will show up in a few days. |

Yeah. I'm going to go with the "Canadian mail system is slow" option.
I have had family who has lived in Canada and we always knew we had to send things with quite a bit of time to spare. My family and friends send me a lot of packages here from American and it only takes 7-10 days. Just got a package in the mail today from a friend and I feel like it was just yesterday that my friend said "Oh I'm going to send you something soon!" |

Usually took about a week to 10 working days to get anything my folks sent over from Newfoundland. Ground mail sometimes took age- nearly 4 months one time! |
