Ok, public service announcement, in Sunae/Bundang, to the guy living next door to me, you obviously moved in less than three months ago because I remember seeing the last guy around Valentine's Day. Things you need to know:

You are the 4th English teacher to live in that officetel in 9 months! I don't know which school owns that officetel but I think its safe to say that there is something sketchy going on.

Maybe it's a cooincidence, but just like you did this week, each one of them has been a ghost-like neighbor (no sounds, no guests, nothing!) who has blatantly ignored me if I made the egregious error of actually saying hello when passing in the hallway. Either the school is crap, or they actively hire people with personality disorders, figure it out for yourself. Don't worry buddy, I don't actually want a conversation with you either, I'm usually on my way to work (usually running late!) and I while I wouldn't mind making another friend, I'm ok with the ones I have, most of whom are likely to still be here in 3 months Wink Mad .

And yes, this is a thinly disguised rant Evil or Very Mad , but it is true Twisted Evil .

I generally give a smile and/or nod in public but it seems like common courtesy to say Hi to a neighbor.

You're referring to the 'Dang's sharp-dressed mayor.

He's official like referees.

Fredbob, have you considered the possibility that you see dead people? Or maybe you are a ghost, and nobody can see you, as ED209 suggested?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: there are just too many unfriendly foreigners in Bundang!

I know all about that crap. Back in late December, a certain young lady (FT)moved in a few doors down, and was left alone for almost two weeks while no one at her hogwan told her anything or stopped by to check on her. I showed her how to exchange Canadian money for won, where to shop and how to order bibimbop.
Since her "lovely" hogwan pimp picked her up Rolling Eyes in January, she now avoids me like the plague. If she starts to complain about benefits or not getting paid, should I come to her rescue again? Rolling Eyes

Funny this is mentioned because at one point I made this exact same move, from Ilsan to Bundang.

I remember a while back reading about someone's contract here that stipulated that "native speakers of X Language Institute are forbidden to cavort with foreigners of other hagwons, as there is a risk of trade secrets being divulged." Perhaps that is a reason that a few foreigners get scared into being reclusive, for fear of losing their jobs?
