I started on this forum in 2000(Under different aliases, of course.) Guess that makes it seven years, but maybe it was 2001. Anyways, any pecularities with the characters here on this board and some you used to know before? What's your feel?

Remember 'The Great Wall of Whiner?' How about people like 'The Lemon', 'HankScorpio', 'Bulsajo' 'Corporal' and many, many more?

It's just that you get the feel certain characters here resemble the same kind of clique mentality and way of doing things, and it makes you wonder why you're still hanging on. Or am I the last one?

Heck, it wasn't long ago this was all just one board.

I posted a few times under a different name in early 02, but I'd be very surprised if I made any sort of impression then

Me.
Posting name was 'Kyledaddy' in 2000 after my son was born. Before that was some other name.
Now my name should be 'Two Sprogs Later, Nagging Greedy Wife and Grumpy Tired Old Bastard, Me.'

Always posted under Jaderedux.

It's a great institution. Too bad I have no desire to be institutionalized.

There's only two times you are ever pronounced in life:
- husband and wife
- dead on arrival

Not me. My Joined date is when I started posting here, and I've never had any other names or socks prior or since. I'd been lurking for about a month before I registered.

From the very first mention I'd heard of "Dave's ESL Cafe" and for an embarrassing number of years thereafter, I actually thought it was a real brick-&-mortar business -- an internet cafe, a PC bang -- located somewhere in Seoul (for some reason I thought it was down in the Ulchiro/Myeongdong area) and that it was run by some Korean guy who calls himself "Dave" to appear hip & Western & foreigner-friendly to his customers.

When did the "Prisoners Of Wonderland" saga first appear online? I ask because it was while reading that that I first stumbled upon a link to an earlier incarnation of this messageboard. And even then, it didn't really dawn on me that, "Ah!! Now I get it! So this messageboard is in fact the 'ESL Cafe' that all the ETs are yapping about! And, no! There really isn't some ELSer-friendly PC bang somewhere in downtown Seoul". I just didn't make the connexion.

As for that proto-Dave's board, I'd read it now & then for bored kicks, never bothered to bookmark it. Aesthetically very grim, stripped-down, primitive and thugly. And so too looked most of the members. Sheesh. What a collection of belligerent, unbalanced, ranting loudmouths, braggarts and wackjobs. Good God, I would have bet any amount against ever wanting to join that or associate with that... (he says, 5,000 posts later! Laughing )

There's something I've noticed when reading a few members' very earliest posts here. I suppose it's only natural when people hang out together for so long, but quite a few of them who are today famous for their barbed, snarky, snippy comments & cynical, jaded online personae were once surprisingly reasonable, polite and kind towards each other.

I've posted here almost once every other day - except for the 4 days I spent locked up in a jail cell in Seocho-gu, Seoul City for a bogus reason in December, 2004.
