Alright.. was on a waiting list for 3 weeks to Manilla. And I got conformation for tickets during Sul lal today!!! My excitement suddenly turned to dread as I have never been there before. I dont' want to be stuck in Manilla, im lookin for a quiet, wide, white beach. Im sure there are a few others going/have been to the Phillippines then too. I need some advice. Help!

1) Im thinking about going to an island. Any suggestions? Im leaning towards Boracay. How bad is it in boracay during this time of year? Will hotels be all booked? Can i just go and expect a vacancy?

2) Do i need to book a domestic flight? or are there many flights available going back and forth from Manilla and Boracay without a reservation?

3) Not trying to be discriminatory, being Korean myself... I want to try to avoid Koreans. You know how they are overseas Rolling Eyes
How busy or bad does it get in Boracay during chinese new years? Is Boracay the wrong place to go? Any better recommendations?

Thanks a bunch in advance!

ummm..... WOW.

Quiet, wide, white beach is a lot of places but Boracay isn't one of them.

It fits all but the quiet, I guess....

http://www.boracay.com/ . Look at the choices and call a few of the resorts to see if you can get a room if you are interested in Boracay.

There will be a few Koreans (a few hundred perhaps) but they are usually herded along by their guides and don't mix with the normal people very much. Their guides keep them pretty isolated.

You will need to get a flight out of Manila and you should contact either Seaair ( http://www.flyseair.com/ ) or Asian Spirit ( http://www.asianspirit.com/ ) for a flight. They are smaller planes (flying into Caticlan) as compared to the flight into Kalibo and the 2 hour trip overland to Caticlan.

Other options are:
Grab a domestic flight to Tagbilaran (alona beach) on PAL ( http://www.philippineairlines.com/ ) or look at places like Malapasqua or Moalboal on Cebu Island.
Mindoro is also close and not hard to get to.

You can also head north to Subic Bay if you don't have much time.

Palawan - Puerto Princessa and El Nido are also good choices if you don't mind taking a domestic flight out of Manila.

thanks for taking the time answering my questions tom. i was also thinking about palawan.. but it seems a lil TOO quiet (as in electricity doesn't even run at night in some hotels.)

i will be taking a domestic flight out of manilla. can i just show up at the counter and expect to grab a flight?

The links were in the 1st message. Book a flight now.

The aircraft are smaller (17-44 passengers) and sell out quickly.

i went to the philippines a month ago. i got out of manila right away. i just took a taxi to the domestic airport, found a travel agency nearby, and bought a ticket to caticlan. i bought my ticket less than an hour before the flight left. i may have just gotten lucky though.

also, unless you have a ton of bags (and in the phils, you shouldn't), skip the tricycle ride from caticlan airport to the boat dock. it's like a 5 minute walk.

The flights to Caticlan will be filled with Korean tourists on Feb. 2,3,8,9,10.

Book now while you can or you will be flying to Kalibo and taking the bus trip.

There's a variety of great beaches in the Philippines. It's up to your taste.Check these following sites:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g562685-d563054-Reviews-9_Beaches_Resort-Sandys_Bermuda.html
http://www.asiatravel.com/elnidominiloc/index.html
http://www.bugbog.com/beaches/philippines_beaches.html

Book a flight earlier to avoid any troubles, plus a bit cheaper too.
I wish you will have a wonderful time with your fiancee wherever you may go. Very Happy

Note: If you're adventurous enough, you can find good places to stay. Just collect all the information you needed before going. Be sure to make a list of the prospect places and hotels you will go. And don't forget to get a map, it'll help you so much. If you don't want to be with the tour, which is more exciting for me, always ask about how and where to go around you. It's kind of paining in the ass but very worthy after.

I went to Boracay twice last year, and LOVED IT DEARLY. I still have the white sand in my head. Don't worry about avoiding Koreans, you can do so quite easily. I just speak English and hang out with the Westerners, and I had no problems.

Lucky you for getting tickets!
