|
|
Currently foreign residents are unable to sign up on Korean websites using their alien registration number. There is either alot of stuffing about having to fax photocopies of ARC's (to Cyworld for example) or having to register using a Korean friend's National ID number.
This petition is asking the Korean government to change the law to allow foreign residents to easily register on any Korean website requiring an ID number.
If you are interested in signing the petition please go to:
http://www.petitiononline.com/korea/petition.html
Cheers. |

I really hate doing this, but it has to be done.
Look up on this forum to where the 'sticky threads' are. The third sticky, below Dave's global announcements, is a thread on this issue and that link, that has been around since last August. |

As a former TV commercial writer/producer, I must say that I absolutely HATE the stickies on this site.
They are usually avoided after the first day, if seen at all. People only notice the new topics, which have arrows and/or moving graphics.
The stickies are meant to have a purpose, but are stupid in how they are used. |

I agree with Derrek. For some reason the stickies just don't enter into my line of sight. |

If you've been on the site enough, you know what's up there. If not, subconsciously. But I agree that the sticky's could use a more visible make-over, to make them standout. |

Oops! Didn't see the sticky. However, if there are others out there like me who don't take much notice of the stickies then I think it's worth re-posting it and bringing it to people's attention. |

I certainly didn't mind, considering it's my petition and all. |

Actually it would really help if you could try to convince the Korea Times or Korea Herald to write an article on my petition. If anybody would like to send an email off to somebody who works there it would be appreciated. |

I'm assuming you've tried that one yourself, mith?
The KH has published my stuff before.
I know you write to Korean papers... |

I've emailed two people on the petition before but I haven't tried for a while.
Oh, wait a second...
I just remembered, they did publish my letter on it way back in August. That was the Korean Herald. Just getting a letter published never does all that much though... |

Sometimes resorting to illegal ARC numbers is an option, and then we are probably not forgiven for doing this. |

I fully support the petition. But, just a tip for cyworld...I joined by taking a picture of my ARC card on my webcam, then I emailed it to them. |

Yeah...it makes no sense the things you can't use your ARC for. Example: I have a Korean credit card and a cellphone in MY NAME...but I can't sign up to play go-stop or use nate!!! How stupid is that??? |

A friend of mine is a staff reporter for one of the English newspapers (don't remember which). I've told her about the issue, and given her the link to the petition. She seems interested, and will contact you at the email address on the petition site if she wants an interview. That cool? |
