				| Michael Moore slams US govt over Cuba probe 22 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Firebrand director Michael Moore lashed out at the United States government on Friday following revelations he is being investigated over a recent trip to Cuba for his new film.

Moore is the subject of a probe by the US Treasury after he took a group of rescue workers in the September 11, 2001 attacks to Cuba for medical treatment during filming of "Sicko," possibly violating a 45-year-old US embargo that limits trade and travel to the country.

In his first response to the controversy, Moore, the Oscar-winning director of "Bowling for Columbine" and "Fahrenheit 9/11," said he was the victim of a politically-motivated investigation.

"I believe that the decision to conduct this investigation represents the latest example of the Bush Administration abusing the federal government for raw, crass, political purposes," Moore wrote in a letter to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson posted on his website (www.michaelmoore.com).

Yes, he did. And yes this issue is as simple as that. But there is one other thing...

Moore staged this and is gleefully taking advantage of it -- playing the victim, etc. -- to hype his film. No more, no less.

Well, if he broke the law and if the punishment for it is prison, thats where he belongs. I know he is the darling of the left, they sure do love liars and criminals on that side, but it is as simple as that: did he break the law.

Personally i would love to see lardy locked up for the maximum extent of the penalty.

He is merely another shrill New-Left hysteric. They scream "bloody murder!" and hurl the most hyperbolic and one-sided insults their vocabulary permits. They preach the bitterst of self-criticism and recite Marxism-Leninism and now Chomsky as if it were the word of God Himself. Battlestar Galactica's producer -- Hollywood's other Moore -- did a nice parody of Michael Moore and Co. in season one. "Somebody's gonna listen!!! They only attacked us because we enslaved them!!!" Whatever. Let him be.

The penalty for defying the Cuban embargo remains a fine, as far as I am aware. Fine his fat ass.

				| "Should a 400 lb man advise us on the evils of over-consumption? Should the resident of a million-dollar apartment claim to be a poster boy of the working class?
Should a person who thought that Enron was a great investment, that Ralph Nader, Wesley Clark and John Kerry would win, and that North Korea's Kim Jong was changing for the better, advise us on ANYTHING?"

Now to the legal issue - In 1999, U.S. President Bill Clinton expanded the trade embargo even further by ending the practice of foreign subsidiaries of U.S. companies trading with Cuba in dollar amounts totaling more than 700 million a year. As of 2007, the embargo which prohibits American businesses from trading or conducting business with Cuban interests is still in effect, making it one of the few times in history that United States citizens have been restricted from doing business abroad, and is the most enduring trade embargo in modern history.

Moore might take issue with that (between pizzas, that is)...

Indeed. The embargo strikes me as useless and petty. Virtually the entire American business community agrees on this point. Should have abrogated it long ago. Here is why we have not and will likely not do so in the forseeable future:

 Castro himself enables it ("Brothers-to-the-Rescue" shootdown, for example);

The Cuban Exile Community stands as a well-organized political force in Floridian and at times American politics and they despise and loath him with every breath they take (think of BLT's feelings towards W. Bush and you are about halfway there); and

American politicians like presidential candidates and others like Burton and Helms cater to this community for advantage over their rivals.

				| He is fat, indeed. This is certainly fact. And God yes it is funny. He is a fat bastard, as a matter of fact. And now this fat bastard is going to lecture us on health matters in a film aptly titled Sicko.
 In the meantime, Look! Twins...

"I ate a baby. Oh, aye, Baby: the other, other white meat. Baby: it's what's for dinner!"

"I'm dead sexy. Look at my sexy body."

				| Gang ah jee: you last six posts deal only with me -- even on threads where I did not participate! Fascinating. Looks like I have picked up another heart-sick groupie/personal prosecutor here on Dave's.
Please come back for number seven. And, oh yeah: be sure to showcase your wit...ROFL
