|

Gopher has argued repeatedly for the emasculation of the debate re: Bush Cadre and their criminal/unconstitutional/treasonous acts. At the same time, he also calls for ZERO action vs. these people that have done so much to damage our nation, Iraq and the world at large.
When confronted with the many crimes of the Bush Cadre, he responds there is no "proof." This even with the slam dunk that is the case with wiretapping: illegal, high crime, unconstitutional and admitted to. Yet, there should be no investigation, no impeachment and, in fact, the president has authority via the Constitution to do as he wishes. (The threads showing all this as fact are on these forums.)
He claims to be a moderate Democrat who currently supports Obama for president, yet, after the '06 elections he announced he had voted the Republican ticket down the line... after registering Republican. He will even post he disapproves of Bush. But the proof in the pudding is he will not call for ANY action against Bush... not even speaking out on a forums such as this.
Gopher is not an English teacher, does not study it and does not live in Korea. Pray tell, why does he continue with his disinformation, misrepresentations, and exhortations to inaction on *this* forum? In fact, he has repeatedly berated other posters for being active on these forums, and they are people who DO live in Korea and work in the EFL field. Does this not strike you as strange?
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
This post is not actually about our silly poster, but about disinformation. It is a common tool of propaganda to infiltrate an opponent with someone who claims to be a member of the group. This person will pay lip service to ideals that are so general that anyone legitimately might, but work subtly to undermine the ideals or goals that the opposing party wishes to defeat. This is what gopher does. Claiming to be a Democrat, he refuses to accept any criticism of the US in general. Claiming to be a Democrat, he refuses to acknowledge the many anti-American, unconstitutional and illegal acts of this presidency. He argues the authority is there, or there is no proof, or others have done the same or worse. His favorite is, shhhh. Don't get so excited! Anti-Bush rhetoric is wrong! It turns people away!
The truth is, a majority of Americans think the Congress is currently acting strongly enough (30%) or NOT strongly enough (40%) to reign in the Bush Cadre. That's 70% of America that wantsPelosi andReid to keep up or INCREASE the pressure and oversight.
But, again, here is gopher telling us all that we Dems should speak politely and carry no stick:

I had this discussion with Gary Nash several weeks ago -- knowing so much and having such a deep grasp of American history and politics as you do, I am sure you know who and what I refer to here -- on his "history-wars" debates with Richard Cheney's wife throughout the 1990s. Nash and I agree that historians and others ought to hold democracy's feet to the fire, challenge it with multiple interpretations.
I explicitly asked him for his reaction re: those who allege that the American govt is broken and irredeemable, an authoritarian state, similar to the Nazi regime, a murderous collection of thugs, etc.
He said that people who resort to that degree of rhetoric really ought to get out and see the world as they show no indication at all that they have any appreciation for the terms they so easily throw around. This very needed debate requires constructive criticism and discourse.
And Wolf's accusing "groups of angry, young Republican men" at the Florida polling stations are analogous to Hitler's SA, or as she alleges, W. Bush's newly-created "thug caste," not to mention the Patriot Act/Enabling Act analogy, does not quite satisfy that need for me... |
You don't need me to point out propaganda when you see it, but here it is. Stay angry America, or America will continue the slide to totalitarian, one party rule. You are NOT free. Your president can imprison you without reason and without any rights... forever. As long as this is true, YOU ARE NOT FREE.
Mayor Rocky Anderson

Gopher voted for Kerry in 2004 and I believe he voted for Gore in 2000.
Interesting that EFL trainer lives in Korea a nation whose national security law is far more restictive than the US patriot act.
On another subject. Hey if the wiretaps were not legal then why doesn't congress stop it?
I do hope the democrats "get angry" as EFL trainer recomends then again I hope the Republicans win in 2008.
So I guess we agree.
Democrats vote for Kunich in 2008 . Go Kunich - |

Although it usually covers serious criminal activity, the Patriot Act can apply to minor infractions on flights.
"You can't make any threatening gesture to an attendant because it does violate the Patriot Act," explained Slepian. "They don't want you getting out of your seat except to go the lavatory. The whole idea is to keep control. If you react to the attendant, you're going to get locked up." |
Not free in the air, especially, it seems. |

Continuing the original point of this thread, the Democrats won by fighting firfe with fire. This does not diminish the role the general disgust with this administration had, but that disgust would not have been as strong without the party changing their approach to mirror that of the scummy republicans. Ends and means? You bet. There are times you have to fight back. When democracy itself is at risk, it is well past time.
I argue it is still not time to appease or be conciliatory. Everything we see from this administration shows they are still ignoring We The People.
Stay Angry. Hold them accountable. Take back America.
(BTW, this post is not just to Americans nor just about America. Britain, too, has seen rights crumbling and government unchecked. If the leader of the free world is nothing more than a thug, what is likely to be the result in other nations?)
This is one part of how it was done:

In the 2006 midterm elections, the Democratic party ended twelve years of electoral humiliation by seizing back Congress and putting an end to Republican rule. The Thumpin is the story of that historic victory and the man at the center on whom Democratic hopes hinged: Congressman Rahm Emanuel, head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).
...Emanuel remade the campaign in his own ferocious image... threw out the playbook on the way Democrats run elections.
Instead of rallying the base, Rahm sought moderate-to-conservative candidates who could attract more traditional voters. Instead of getting caught in the Democrats endless arguments about their positions, he went on the attack, personally vilifying Republicans from Tom DeLay to Christopher Shays. And instead of abiding by the gentlemens agreements of good-old-boy Washington, he broke them, attacking his counterpart in the Republican party and challenging Howard Dean, the chairman of his own party. |

I believe the proper name here on Dave's is "The Gopher."
Flim Flam Frank aka The Luntz
| Quote: |
A "con," a "scam," a "grift," a boo-boo, a bunko, a flim flam. All these are synonyms for what street crime experts call the "Confidence Trick."
I will add one more synonym to the list: The Luntz.
The Confidence Trick has many names: Three-Card-Monte, The Spanish Prisoner, The Protection Scheme, The Free Pet Scam, Pig-in-a-Poke, Lottery Fraud by Proxy, The Pigeon Drop, Psychic Surgery.
The list is long long, but the lure of the Luntz is always the same: easy money. Relieve the mark of his cash. And it works just about every time.
This weekend, Bill Maher was the mark and HBO's Real Time was the venue for a scam being run coast-to-coast by the grand master grifter of American Politics: Flim Flam Frank, who runs this scam under the name "Frank Luntz."
The name of the Luntz? Let's call it the "Advice to Democrats Scam" or even better: "The Angry Dem Flim Flam" Posing as a expert on winning elections, give advice to Democrats about winning elections by not being "angry." Insulting by nature, the advice leads to contentious arguments the end goal of which is to create a ruckus that drives book sales. |

First you fixated on W. Bush -- your "Dumbya." Now you fixate on me as well, BLT. You carry me around in your signature line. You start threads centered on me, personally.
The solution is very simple; I have proposed it before. You ignore my posts and I ignore yours. If you respect this, I will reciprocate. But you never have demonstrated that you could even grasp this, let alone do your part to effect it. No matter. I reiterate my suggestion.
Strongly recommend you do not argue with me about who you think is right or who started what. Just obey the simple rule I propose above and I will reciprocate. And that will be that. I will even grant you the last word (per usual). Come back, slam me point by point. Excoriate me. Get it all off your chest. But then walk away.
I will do the same. In fact, as a sign of good-faith, whether you respect this or not, I will not respond to your posts for the next several days -- even if you continue harassing me like this.
What do you say? |

Bwahahahaha... check the other thread, boy. I worked for a loooong time to be reasonable with you. You aren't interested in that. You're just beaten.
You lie, I call it. That won't change, son. Don't want me calling you out on lies, don't lie.
Run on home. |
