R.S.: for all intents and purposes, the W. Bush Administration lost the military's support as early as mid-2006. Note that the best the administration could get for its "war-tzar" position was a three-star. That should speak volumes.
Until Jan. 2009, comes along, the military will likely respond to the White House "cool-but-correct." But there will not likely be any new wars between now and then. You might say the armed forces have checked the civilians' authority -- a first in American history as far as I can tell.
In any case, this is not news. |

Gopher, I didn't realize this is a "news" forum. I believe the title is, "Current Events," which this most certainly is. Current and ongoing.
Re: the OP: The reactions of soldiers was important in ending the Viet Nam war. It is both chilling and instructive that the soldiers have now been prevented from blogging, posting to YouTube, etc. While OPSEC is important, much of what they have been posting is not in breach of OPSEC protocol and has not been shut down for that reason. In fact, soldiers have the right to speak out against illegal and immoral acts they are told to do. They also have a right to express their political inclinations.
This is a First Amendment breach in many cases. |
