My principal told me today that U.S. ctizens can only claim exemtion from paying income taxes in Korea if they are on an exchange program between two particular schools.
I checked the N.T.S. site but did not find any info about this point and am wondering if anybody has the scoop on this.

As long as you are residing outside of the US for year, you do not have to pay taxes on any income earned overseas up to USD $80,000. Double check this on the IRS website. |

US citizens are exempt from KOREAN income taxes for their first 2 years in Korea provided that they have a filed an 8802 with the IRS and have the reply form from the IRS (I forgot the number)
AND
work at a public school or publicly funded university.
Contact Wenise Kim and she can give you the particulars and then explain them to your principal.
