Hi all,

Can anyone who is, or has lived, in Hwaseong please tell me a bit about the area?

Thanks!

Isn't that the place where all the serial killings are happening? Shocked

(Sorry if I'm wrong but I'm not kidding).

If you mean the Memories of Murder' incidents then yes it's started again. Five women went missing, one body found, property prices dropping. I have one student, mid twenties, whose mother won't allow her out after 5pm. My students tell me there are believed to be more than one killer!

Okay Grim,

Maybe I will do research and write a book about it. Twisted Evil

But what about the area in general? How far from Seoul is it? What has it got? And what does it not have?

Best,

K

There's already been a thread warning foreigners not to go there because there a tv report warning Korean women and the OP of the thread was worried that foreigners would not have understood the tv report.

Another student of mine bought an apt there about one year ago and was waiting for it to be built. Now his wife won't move there and he can't sell the apt.

You mean apart from the atmosphere of fear that grips a communuty after it has been reported on national television that a serial killer is stalking the area (particularly when similar reports were made only months before after the discovery of parts of a dismembered body)?

Well I'd imagine there are a lot of employment opportunities for women due to an increasing number of vacancies. Oh..and I'd imagine it's very scenic...the ground must be very fertile with all those dead bodies decomposing about the place. Still every cloud has a silver lining and it's an ill wind etc...

Good luck with the book!

I still have no idea about what is available in Hwaseong. What about the area in general? How far is it from Seoul? What has it got? And what does it not have?

Best,

K

So my school is in Hwaseong, and I live about a block outside of Hwaseong in Suwon.
Hwaseong is a pretty decent area. The subway station is called Byeongjeom (병점). From the station it's about an hour and a half into Hongdae and you can catch a bus that'll get you to Gangnam in about 45 minutes (seeing as how you've been a member for 4 years I assume you know about those areas).
While getting to Seoul can be a bit of a hassle, Suwon is a pretty decent place to go out. It's got plenty of bars (including a Wa Bar and the "Queen's Head," which brews its own German beer).
The people are actually quite lovely here, as I've been living in the city for the better part of 9 months and haven't been on the receiving end of any discrimination (that I can tell). English proficiency, just like every city outside of Seoul, is sadly quite low.
All in all it's a pretty decent city. None of my coteachers have talked to me about the killings, so I'm assuming they don't think it's that big of a deal (when I first got here they all warned me about fan death a thousand times, so I think they'd tell me to be extra cautious if need be).
I'd be happy to answer any other questions.

Sounds like that Korean movie "apateu" (apartment)... all these people keep dying at the same apartment building because of the ghost of a possessed girl...
