What is wrong with my laptop?

In the last week, it has started to constantly freeze and lock up. Usually the mouse still responds but everything else is frozen.

I have used some of the free anti-virus stuff and they have found nothing. I use spybot and adaware everyday and I still have problems.

Even as I write this (which is shocking enough) the clock reads 7:11pm but it's actually 7:45! Shocked

Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

It could be umpteen things. Have you installed any new software lately? Any error messages coming up? When it locks up does ctrl+alt+del work? If it does, what processes are taking juice from the CPU? What processes are using a whole lot of memory?

If nothing seems amiss above, go here.

If you still can't find anything you might want to do a system restore (assuming you have the CDs).

Thanks very much for your help!

Update: Turned out it was the svchost.exe sucking up all my resources. I had to turn off the auto update option on Windows XP. It's been working like a dream ever since.....
