Because they are a superpower economically, but they seem to get in any trouble except with China and Korea(which still seems to be over their imperial past rather than anything they do now) or am I mistaken

I understand that they have quite a few problems with extreme nationalists, and that they have a very protected market like Korea, but other than that I'm pretty clueless

What are the big problems they face? Is it likely that they will go into meltdown like they did in the 90s when this world recession we are supposed to be facing kicks in?

Any information would be good, thanks Smile

another question

when I visited fukoka for the weekend I did a lot of walking about and found this park which was chock full of homeless people like 'tent city' in london, obviously shoved away from the city and out of sight out of mind....

is this a big problem in japan?

To the best of my knowledge, Japan has a very low poverty rate. But, like any place in the world, certainly poverty and homelessness exist. In fact, given the exorbitantly high cost of living, homelessness doesnt surprise me at all. Believe it or not, Japan is facing a growing population of well-to-do, employed, homeless youths, who live in the Japanese equivalent of PC bangs because its cheaper than living in apartments. This rapidly growing age group, know as the Freeters, essentially works unskilled, low-paying part-time jobs and freelance work, with the aid of their parent's financial support. This phenomenon is caused by the difficulty of finding good work at the entry level (sadly, they dont have the option of going abroad to teach JFL), and in some cases, personal choice. .

i can imagine that, i did that for 2 nights, their pc bangs are totally different to korean ones, you get a nice sofa, your own booth, bedding and access to showers and a water cooler, all for pretty cheap. It's a much better deal than the capsules, and i imagine similar price to an apartment when you add on utilities bills
