| Ahh life has some funny twists and turns. After four years working in Korea, I've just accepted an appointment to work as an analyst for a Japanese diplomat in New Zealand. |

It's in Auckland so its a consulate.. but same-same. I lucked out - I'm on the corner of the 12th floor with an awesome view overlooking the city. |

That's awesome. Good luck with it. Perhaps we are looking at the future New Zealand ambassador in Korea  The current NZ ambassador looks pretty young actually, I was surprised. |

Good on you.
So, how are things in New Zealand politically and economically? I know in my 50-sq-m "domain", I'm definitely subordinate to the ruling party (the missus) although the two factions get along well, and our economy is sluggish although consumer confidence appears recovering, particularly in the ladies' apparel sector. |

haha... oddly the first and only time I ate whale meat was in Korea...
The job was advertised in the paper and I got it. While I have a poli sci degree, I agree that my time in Korea helped me get the gig (the second-in-command of the mission speaks fluent Korean in addition to English).
Though it's going to be interesting and I'll make a lot of contacts, the pay is a bit crappy esp. now I'm paying tax and rent. On the plus side it is a foot in the door to bigger and better things. |

Koreans don't hunt whales, no, that would be wrong as it is a member of the IWC...but they do 'accidentally' catch them in fishing nets (nearly 100 whales a year as opposed to 5 on average for the other non-whaling countries).
