Anyone recommend textbooks for 1st graders?
My first grader class is once a week and I have about 22-25 students in it. I don't have enough time to give each student individual attention so I need a good textbook that I can go through with the class as a group. I was going to do TPR, singing, and coloring for 20 minutes, and I want to devote the rest of the time to a textbook.
Any suggestions? |

I assume you mean 1st grade elementary school? If so, I think the English Time series is hard to beat. Obviously ET1 for these kids. The tapes and teacher's manual are really helpful and i would suggest buying them. The tapes have really good catchy songs to help the kdis remember the target language and teh manual has a lot of reproducibles for games and reveiw. |

Thanks Kat, I'll take a look into English Time.
Any idea where I (my school) can order those books in bulk? I'll need like 25 copies, plus the teacher's manual. |

A lot of people here don't like them, but the Gogo Loves English series has worked miracles with one of my younger classes. The songs are annoying as all hell, but the kids will like them. |

Yes- agreed. "Gogo loves English" works well. Also you can use "Mr. Bug's Phonics" books for ABC review, and worksheets. You can combine this with ABC games, and if possible (if you have the means in your classroom,) I'll combine these books with videos such as Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, ect. Lots of stuff on youtube for this. |
