Some people site the importance and love of dogs in Western society as a reason not to eat dog meat.

While that may be a good reason for some, there are others who disagree and say that's not enough.

However, I argue that the best reason not to eat dog meat is because by buying dog meat, you are supporting cruelty to animals.

In Western societies, at the time of the slaughter of cows and pigs, there are efforts to reduce the amount of pain the animal feels. A bolt style gun quickly knocks out the animal's senses.

In Korean dog slaughtering, it is commonly said that the opposite is done. They use methods that maximise the dog's suffering in order to force the dog to release adrenaline. More adrenaline in the meat is believed to have some positive health properties for the consumer of dog meat. The animal is killed by being clubbed to death.

With this knowledge, I don't know how any foreigner can feel good about purchasing dog meat. Please think about this before going into a dog meat restaurant.

Daves isn't a popularity contest so I don't care if I get slammed for my views.

DEV~ I couldn't agree with u more.

INTENTIONAL cruelty~ is a disgrace for which there is never a justification.

(not like the cruelty you see in slaughter houses. Sure that sux too, but this is premeditated)

and, for what is worth: I don't care what anyone eats. Horse, cow, Jinju, pig, mouse, panda or dog.

However, I do believe no animal should ever be tortured for our pleasure.

Fire away.

(sticks and stones may break my bones but words......) Wink

Well, I've read a lot of things about the cattle, poultry and swine industries in the US, and they are not as pretty as regulations make you think. An important factor is that the number of employees whose job it is to monitor activity and regulation compliance on farms/slaughterhouses was reduced to a ridiculous number. There is next to no assurance that regulations are followed and animals do not have their hair burned off of them by steam while they are still alive, or aren't skinned alive.

Furthermore, there is the issue of human treatment. The way that workers at slaughterhouses are treated is subhuman, often because of reliance upon illegal immigrant workers. Imagine you are being treated terribly (i.e. incurring a massive wound while on the job and being told if you see a doctor you'll be fired and/or reported to immigration) how grim your outlook on life would be. Would you feel much compassion for the thousands of animals you butcher each day, and care if they have an extra moment or ten of pain before they inevitably die?

Sure, cruelty to animals sucks, and I am not trying to justify the dog beating, as I think it's abhorrent. However, you must see the issue with perspective. That should be your mantra, Dev.

If you're going to rant about the subject, whatever your viewpoint, at least learn how to spell it. It's 보신탕, not 보싱탄.

Ole' Willie Three Toes died last month. He was a good dog, a humanist of sorts. A big loveable yellow Lab he was. I'll never forget that guy. Sniffle.

His master passed away (cancer) and Willie Three Toes was auctioned off to the neighbors for dinner.

His favorite song was:

Quote:
If I could make a wish I think I'd pass
Can't think of anything I need
No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound
Nothing to eat no books to read
Making love with you, has left me peaceful warm inside
What more could I ask
There's nothing left to be desired

Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe and to love you

Sing it Willie!!

All I need is the air that I breathe yes to love you
Just to have you now
All I need is the air that I breathe you're all I want

Peace came upon me and it breathes in me
Don't sleep silent angel don't you sleep

Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe and to love you
just to have you now
All I need is the air that I breathe yes to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe you're all I want

Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe and to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe yes to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe

Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe and to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe yes to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe

Holy mother of all that is holy the apocalypse is upon us. I agree with Q.

Dev as long as you think the suffering is within your tolerance than it is okay. Tell you what Dev I have seen the slaughter of beef cattle and if you thing being dazed and being hung up by one hoof and have your throat slit is a party um...I have to worry about you. They are not dead because to properly slaughter an animal for yummy old hamburgers the heart has to still be beating to insure the maximum amount of blood can be pumped out or there will be a gamey sometimes metallic taste to the meat.

The cows are in a serious panic because they can smell the blood and some break their legs backs whatever trying to escape. I have seen them take a chainsaw saw to a heifer that got her leg stuck. Cut off the leg and got up on the shackles asap so she wouldn't be lost for meat. Sometimes they get trampled to death in the panic.

You ought to see how they transport them. No water after weighing in and they stand for hours and hours in their own feces and urine.

I have been to Moran Market where they have huge dog market. I didn't see any dogs being beaten but they were being butchered. I know sometimes they are and yes that sucks but I have to agree with Messr. Q. Perspective is the key word.

They now raise turkeys so large that they can't walk. They breed them for breast meat and they can't walk. Yeah that's a party too.

We are all food for something. Eventually we will all be worm food sucks but it is true. I guess it is okay to kill an ugly ol' cow but fido is too cute. I don't condone the beating but to be perfectly honest in my 7 years here I have never heard a dog being beaten for dog butchering nor have I heard it. Maybe they have secret dog concentration camps outside Seoul.

For example, the dead horse beating and trolling that you intentionally inflict upon us, Dev.

Please think about that the next time you are at your keyboard.

Sure is a whole lot better to break the beaks off of chickens so they don't peck each other while they stand in overcrowded cages which are just mesh wire so that the shat drops thru onto the chickens below.

I am curious tho how much the enforcement of anti-dog beating laws are being enacted. My boss claims it's fairly rare in Seoul but I wouldn't know.

Thanks for trolling again Dev. You should remember that you already hijacked this thread to bring up the very same subject. Please get some new material.
