Forgiving Jerry Falwell
by Tony Hendra

In my book The Messiah of Morris Avenue, I try to dramatize the vast chasm between the Christianity that is (and will be for a while) driving America's destiny - the Christianity of self-obsessed nonsense like The Rapture, of toxic racial, social and sexual phobias, of people who call themselves 'pro-life' wallowing in the vision of the returned Christ murdering billions of their enemies; a Christianity of damnation-induced terror, brutish retribution and hate-based political initiatives, in short the Christianity of Jerry Falwell; and the beliefs and values, which as far as I can tell from the skimpy historical evidence and the oral traditions passed down by those who claim to have known him, the guy from Nazareth actually preached. . .

Ahhhh, Tony Hendra. Tony Hendra talking about forgiveness. I wonder if Hendra's daughter has forgiven him for, according to her, sexually abusing her when she was a child. Yeah, Tony Hendra attempting to claim the moral high ground ...... whatever. Rolling Eyes

I believe Tony Hendra is about as much of an authority on morality as Cesar Chavez or Fidel Castro.

You'll have to do better than that, Refugee.

Someone who did forgive Falwell and befriended him was his former adversary, Larry Flynnt, the Hustler magazine mogul.

Indeed, Flynnt is on record as saying that unlike most teleevangelists, Falwell was sincere in his beliefs, however misguided many might find them, and deported himself in a gentlemanly fashion.

Same cannot be said for charlatans and many rabid leftist agnostics.
