I am hoping to get some helpful advice on adding RAM to a system that I had built recently. Currently I only have 1 GB installed. I knew that I should have had at least 2, but I was only willing to spend a certain amount at that time. How much difference is an additional 1gb going to make in the speed of the computer? I am not really a gamer, so it just for usual applications and photo editing. Do I need to add a matching stick for optimal performance, or can I add something with a higher speed? Oh yeah, I'm only running XP Home sp2.
Here are some of the specs for the system:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz
Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz
ASUS p5vd2-mxse DDR2 533/400 2gb pci-e
Geforce 7100 gs
250 gig WD-SATA
250 gig WD-IDE
I don't know what else to mention. I know about computers somewhat, but am obviously not as knowledgeable as most here. Thanks! |

Dual channel kits (matched fsb/ timings) will run slightly faster than mismatched sticks. If the fsb of sticks are not the same, they will automatically both run at the lower of the two. You will notice a difference upgrading to 2gb of ram. |

I noticed quite a difference when I went to 2gb in dual-channel mode. |

Done. I already went to Yongsan and added the same RAM that was in the other slot. We'll see. |
