The title pretty much sums it up. I'm trying to save a large audio file to a DVD-R and it won't recognize that there's a disk in the drive. I have the media player set to Data CD. Still nothing. If I press burn anyway, it will just eject the disk and ask me to insert a blank one. The thing is if I try to read from the disk it will recognize that the disk is blank. I've tried inserting a new disk...nothing. The file isn't protected. I don't know what's going on.

I've tried looking online for solutions, everything I've found suggests installing new software like ROXIO or Nero. Has anyone on here had a similar problem? Or, a suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

Is there a setting to switch between CD and DVD? And which version of media player are you using?

Edit: Just googled and the first answer I came across says that XP doesn't support burning DVDs, so, if that's correct, you will need to use Nero or Roxio or some other program.

I'm using Window Media Player 11. The thing about not burning DVD's would make sense except that I've stored music files on these disks in the past from this computer without issue. It's like the computer just suddenly decided it didn't want to do it anymore.

Just download good burning software like Nero 7. Windows Media Player isn't really intended to actually be used to burn. Although it can.

Ya, I finally tried that and it seems to have worked. Thanks for the help.
