Recently I have discovered how very thin my walls are... even in what I thought to be a premium apartment I can still hear my neighbors. They seem to be making an attempt to be quiet and I can still hear them. It's quite disturbing now to realize the level of noise my girlfriend and I generate... the other neighbors must have hated us for quite some time.

As a result I want to find a living condition where I don't share a wall with anybody.

I have seen small housese near train tracks that run about as much, possibly even less, than my present apartment. The train might take some getting used to but having something akin to true privacy may be worth it.

I was also thinking about one of the apartments that project out from a building, rather like a peninsula.

Does anyone have any experiences with residences like these they could share?
