Meteorologists advised residents to prepare for the worst. More heavy rainfall is expected. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) has issued heavy rain warnings for islands off the west coast and Kangwon Province.

"Traditionally, we only have occasional showers after the monsoon season is over. But we are receiving unusually late heavy rainfall and this is expected to continue until the end of August," Yoon Suk-hwan, an official at the KMA, said yesterday.

Your point? What do you think? What's your attitude? How does it relate to your experience? Is it unusual? You leave one wanting something more.

You like to post straight info, and that's great. How about starting a thread for "Real Reality News". You can update it as regularly as you have been beginning new threads.

AS I play a weatherman sometimes on TV, (had to say that) I have noticed that Koreans look at their weather patterns and generalize. Like the above article implies, they think it strange that it would rain so much in August, bacause it doesn't fit the mold of their one dimensional thinking. For the past 8 August I have lived here, it has rained hard, but they learn in school it only rains hard during the 'rainy season'. So it is strange to them. (Change the educational system away from memorizing facts to some ablity to process data and draw conclusions and this might change) Going through weather lessons is also interesting, for Koreans always say for winter that Korea is cold and snowy. (ie. fact, what they memorized in school) Snowy my a s s. Koreans don't know what big snow is. (No international comparison) Korean is cold and dry in the winter, and when I say this I get looks of disbelief, like a pissed on their grandfathers graves in drunken stupor and can't really be blamed.

I couldn't agree more.

We're getting into the time of year when the Korean '4 distinct season' thing really starts to annoy me. Why?

Because they think, no, religiously believe, that towards the end of August and into september the weather will be cool. No exceptions!!!

This means that any day soon all the air-conditioners in this country will be turned off untill next June.

The possibility of a hot day in September is not even considered!! The mantra is,
"But no, in Korea the fall is cool"

Even if you get a day of 30 degrees in september they will not turn the bloody air-con on!!!!

Sigh...........rant over.

What the f*** was this all about? Did you reply to the wrong thread? Hope so.

My point, chronicpride, wasn't clear? Now, that IS ironic! Realreality provides great tidbits of information, some of which are developed by others into interesting threads. Providing a weather report of the west coast without any accompanying point, seemed like a small point for a new thread. We can read the Herald's daily weather report for Korea.

I open many of his threads and hope for something more than the barebone facts of a weather report. Throw us a bone! Give us some attitude. And/or, tell us how the weather now, in that region, relates to anything else. Say it sucks as usual, if that's what you think. Make a point. I was one of the first to read the new thread, and was the first to post. I just wanted to reflect what others have stated elsewhere: "What is your point?" The idea for a "Real Reality News" thread is genuine and not sarcasm. It could be a great service, and could be complemented by other threads when he has a point.

That's just my thoughts on the matter. Maybe it's a view shared by only a few. Take it or leave it. Yes, I'm complaining a teeny, weeny bit, but with no resentment or malice. I'd prefer Realreality continuing the practice as it is over his stopping altogether. It's a great service, however it's provided.

Sorry everyone for the quick digression: In another thread I wonder about where people email from because I notice a flurry of postings on Dave's at noon on a Monday, and Rapier asks if the thread's for a customer survey. Now that's cheeky. Embarassed How can I reciprocate? I could just defer to his 1000 posts of wisdom. But I don't think any of us are here to cowtow to anyone else. Can I call myself a moral bass tard? Nah. Attitude just goes in many directions.

Now, it's cloudy and warm in the southwest tonight. Perfect weather for night strolling. I love the windless rain storms. When I don't have to travel far in it. Smile Anyone have experience or info on how the weather typically is in September? A trip to Jeju or Seoul may hang in the balance.

VanIslander,

If you have a place here to vent the odd time, then shouldn't RealReality have a place here to post things that he feels are noteworthy?

There's been a lot of people that come here over time that post anything and everything. Try not to lose sleep over the small stuff. Wink
