|
|
As the traffic flow toward the big city will be almost nonexistent, I'm considering a first trip to Sow-ul (spoken of in these parts as Sow-what?). What is Seoul like during Chusok? Are many of the shops and other businesses closed? How's it like there then?
And, some have posted elsewhere the idea of a get together in Seoul during Chusok (even though some of Dave's loyal vets will be out of town). Do you want to congregate in the Big Smoke? |

I'm planning to be in Seoul for the holiday and would gladly meet up somewhere in Itaewon like Gecko's, Hollywood Pub, 3 Alley Pub.
This will be my 4th Chusock in Korea* and I can tell you that the city will be less crowded, and many shops and stores will be open. On the actual day of Chusock the big stores (Lotte, Hyundai, etc) will be closed, but movies, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and such will be open.

we'll be there, as someone said Seoul is wonderful over Chusok, not crowded, more relaxed, most things open. It seems like the foreigners have the run of the city except for the bus and train station
another suggestion for a place to meet up is the Reggae Pub in Itaewon. Its back after a 2+ year absence in its original location!!!!!! |

I don't think the traffic flow to Seoul will be non-existant at all. If i remember rightly VanIslander you live in Koje. maybe from Daejeon to Seoul it MIGHT be OK but from Koje to Deajeon it will be a nightmare!! What would normally be a 6 hour bus ride I think would turn into a 14 to 18 hour one(i don't think I'm going over the top), my advice to you is to stay put. Going to Seoul would only be advisable if you have a plane ticket from Jinju booked(good luck). I drove from Busan to Jinju last year(to climb jirisan which was fantastic) and it took 5.5 hours for a trip that would take 2. |

So there's usually heavy northward traffic from Busan to Daejeon? That counts me out of Seoul. Just because I don't like traffic. Unless someone can suggest a lesser hassle.
I wonder if Busan to Gyeongju is busy. (Any info?) It would be nice to spend a day there first, amidst the old and new, perhaps take in the World Expo. (Any takers? ) Then travel onward to the Big Smoke.
Otherwise, you guys pick up the thread and run with it.
Maybe us southerners will have to have an alternative get together. Hmmm. In Busan? Jeju? |

On the day of Chusok (Thursday, 8/11) there are plenty of flights, trains, and hardly any cars on the highways. So, that would be the best time to come to Seoul.
I suggest that we meet on the above mentioned day in Itaewon at Gecko's, have a drink, and decide where to go from there. How does that sound? |

I'm down for a get-together this Thursday night. Just gotta check to see what the girlfriend has planned for going out of town or staying home.
Might be a good thing to meet some other expats and Koreans alike. Even breaks the monotony of being stuck at home for a few days.

Last I'd heard it was 7pm at Gecko's. I'm up for that, but if the plan has changed someone make it more clear here, okay? |
