is it:

in secret = in a secret place
secretly = in a secret manner

Go to www.lextutor.ca and enter the two in the concordancer program, with the corpus set to "all of the above" to get a sample of the actual usage of each in order to work out what the differences are.

As a grammar incompetent it seems they are equally correct the choice of usage is just a matter of style.
