Check out this blog entry in which it is pointed out that Westfield High, the school Cho and his sister attended, has produced two mass killers in the last two years . . . that the school has close relationships with the defense/military/intelligence community, and suggests that perhaps the school has a problem, but influential people may not want prying eyes looking into their community.

(I've mentioned and linked this blog in another posting here in the Current Events page, but would like to point it out separately and specifically.)

Cho's high school was in DC. You know what they have in DC? FBI headquarters, CIA headquarters, Secret Service headquarters, numerous Defense contractors, the NSA headquarters, etc...

Homeless people in DC have connections with military/intelligence/etc... in DC. Hell, even pigeons have connections.

Show me the drivel. The author points out that:

1. The school is in a very wealthy county and is blessed with excellent facilities and endowments.

2. The school has ties to military contractor, with many parents working in the industry and the industry sponsoring and recruiting from the school.

3. Two students from the school in as many years have taken up arms and gone on a killing rampage.

4. The writings and rantings of both students included references to abuse at the hands of authorities.

These are verifiable facts.

Then the author suggests that perhaps there is a problem with the culture of the school and / or the community, that needs to be examined. She then hints that perhaps there are some in positions of influnce who do not want such attention brought on their community / culture.

This is her contention.

Seems to me a fairly well organized "on the fly" thesis. Facts followed by drawn conclusive contention.

Again, . . show me the drivel. ( Assuming you have a grasp of what "drivel" is.)

** It's easy to dismiss points of view with a " . .drivel . ." rubber stamp- - as much effort as surfing channels. Would it be too much to ask you to actually read something and form a reasonable argument for or against it?

I read it. Its simply another fantasy spewing lunatic writing about government connections, the CIA, secret connections, etc. I used to enjoy the X-files but I knew that was a show. Some people tend to think these things are real. I guess you are joining IGTG in schizphrenia world.

You're really going too far with it: She simply is saying "There's something wrong at that school and it ought to be looked at. Why isn't it?"

Okay, maybe my subject line was misleading. I've edited it.

Still, if you read the blog, while there's a taste of "conspiracy" to it, that is not the main point. The main point: Why isn't the school being looked at? Two young men in two years from that school go on a killing rampage and both ranted about abuse by authority figures (such as teachers).

So what? Northern California high schools in good neighborhoods have strong ties with HP and Apple.

Ummm copy cat effect?

Gosh, mentally deranged high school kids report abuse at the hands of authority. I was in Catholic school, sane as a teen can be, and I still reported "abuse". It's the teenage way of thinking.

Post hoc fallacy. It's a hypothesis. Let her lay out her evidence in support of it. But we have, what, homogeneous, upper class communities, a couple outsiders, high achievers everywhere, parents who demand a lot, work a lot, teenagers, and some guns. Oh disaster. Yes, let's change American upper class culture and take away the guns. Surely, the defense establishment isn't purposely turning kids into killers.

Thanks, Mindmetoo . . . That's what I was looking for ( an actual counterargument ).

Geez, it's like pulling teeth sometimes here!
