Ok, so I sent my degree and contract to Korea through FEDEX. But, I have not heard anything back yet. I sent it a week ago. Should I be worried? Am I being hung out to dry here? I am hoping it will not be too expensive to get a replacement for my degree from my university and try again with a different recruiter or employer. |

Oh sweet jesus....I hope you get it back.
Don't trust anyone with your degree or passport. There are some real shady characters that pass for hagwon directors in Korea. |

You should be able to track where the parcel is up to using the FEDEX site. I tracked mine when I sent the paperwork to Korea so I knew when it had been delivered.

Only send photocopies or scans, and only let them photocopy your original documents (at interview, or later).
+
Immi. require sealed transcripts, not original degree. |

Ouch.
Did you happen to do any research on this subject (on this site) before you made this move?
Here's a word for the wise. Notarize copies at your nearest Korean consulate. Works the same way as your original.

Depends on your University. I've ordered replacement copies like 5x now for various reason.. cost like 30$ a pop but...
But it's only been a week... I wouldnt worry YET... wait a few more days.
Dont you have the contact info for your school or recruiter? Cant you just ask? |

when I did lots of hiring in Japan, FEDEX refused to allow us to send official docs through them such as certificates. We used to get round it by sealing them inside two pieces of other paper so it looked like we were sending normal paper. It always got to the other end in 24 hours or so. I was always worried they'd find out that they weren't just transporting docs. |

You did no research at all? I think you are a troll. If not then I hope your university charges you $100 to get your degree back.
They know if they have your degree you can't go work for anyone else. |

What if you don't live anywhere near a Korean consulate?
Get a second copy from the University right off? Just in case. |

You fedex the documents to and from the consulate. It's in your own country. They speak English. They don't have an incentive to keep the original. If the consulate looses them then it's easier to get a replacement while you are still in your home country.

Well, it is for a public school so I ought to be pretty safe. Though I was reassigned to a smaller town. Probably going to be a lonely year. But, I can always switch after a year. |

yes, sorry, i heard back. but that was when i was reassigned to a smaller city in the same province. the position i originally applied for was filled. i got my visa number and sent my other documents by courier to the consulate in montreal. (i'd normally be reluctant but am hoping a public school will still be a safe bet,) |
