Despite searching these forums and reading up on the possible places I'm considering working, fresh advice seems like a good idea. And since people like to plug or diss certain places, maybe it's ok to ask the same old question? "Where should I work?"
Therefore, I'm wondering what ideas/opinions/thoughts/critiques you might have about the following teaching situations:
Hanam--high school, public
Namyang-elementary, public w/ 1 other FT
Yeosu-high school or middle school, no specific school, just going through recruiter
All of these jobs have basically the same package, so no one stands out as being absoultely better than any other.
The considerations: I'm planning to be in Korea for a year. I'd like to save money, but also travel as much as possible. I'm not sold on being in Seoul, but I'm wondering if its best since I've never lived overseas. I'm planning on needing to accomplish major things while in Korea related to further schooling back in the US, so going out every night won't be an option for me. Weekends however, are another story. A story I'd be really sad not to be able to participate in due to location.
I'd really prefer to teach high school since I have teaching experience with college students only. So maybe the real question is what are the advantages/disadvantages to being near Seoul (but not in) and far, far away near the ocean? I'd also like to be able to travel as much as I can on a budget. Would being in Yeosu hurt that? Also, is being in a small place like Yeosu isolating? More isolating than just generally being isolated in a foreign country?
Any random thoughts you can provide might help shake my totally indecisive mind in some direction. I know the answer to this is a lot about me and what I want or how capable I am of making things work myself, but it's reassuring to hear your views nonetheless. |
