Hi,
I need some ideas for a Honeymoon in August. We were thinking of Boracay, but am worried about the weather as it's slap bang in the middle of the rainy season.
We're hoping for a nice beach so we can chill, but also a place that has stuff to do if we want.
Has anyone been to Boracay in mid August? Is it really rainy? Or is it just a little rain in the day time?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can expect rain 3 or 4 times per week in mid Aug.

If you want something other than just beach / bar activities may I suggest Bohol / Panglao / Alona Beach.

You have most of what Boracay offers without the isolation of being on a tiny island with no where to go and nothing other than beach and bars.

http://www.bohol.ph and scroll down to Alona beach. I would be happy to answer any specific questions you may have after you have a look.

Wow, Alona looks great. As it's a honeymoon, are there any fancy places to stay on the beach you could recommend?
You said that it rains 3-4 times a week. Is that all day rain or just heavy showers followed by sunshine?

Also if anyone could give us ideas of other destinations, like in Malaysia or Indonesia that would be great.

There are lots of nice places and price ranges.

A nipa hut on the sand with private bathroom for $25.
A suite beside the pool with satellite TV. IDD phone and all the amenities from $100-$200 per night (depending on the resort)

A nice place that I personally like is the Alona Trpoical resort ($25-100).

Right next door and significantly upscale is the Alona Palm resort. ($150+)

In town but on the water is the Bohol Tropical ($40-120)

or you can get the penthouse at the Metrotown in Tagbilaran (Bohol) for about $100 per night.

All of them are searchable and have websites and their numbers were on the link I gave in the last post.

As for the weather, you can expect rain storms to last 1-3 hours on average and 3-4 times per week. It is NOT often that they get all-day rain. There should still be lots of sunshine too.

If you want to go really upscale and have a sweet resort for your honeymoon then there is always the:

Shangri-la

or

Plantation Bay

resorts in Cebu. They run about $1400 per week but are very nice.

i've heard of lots of Korean honeymooners going to Guam. i've never been so can't offer advice about weather, accomodation etc but apparently the beaches are lovely (not as nice as Boracay i'm sure).

i second the 1st guy that answered. i went to boracay mid-august last year, and i would be so dissapointed if it were my honeymoon. it's off season, so everything's dead, except for the korean tourists who have vacation then.

how about bali? if it's too much of a party atmosphere, you could hop on a ferry to lombok (nice resports!), or if you really want a secluded beach with good food and snorkeling, try the gili islands right to the north.
