|
|
I have a mini laptop that I want to sell. I've had it for a few months now, but I got bored playing with it and now it is just lying around.
It's a Kohjinsha SA1F00 model, white. It has a 7-inch 800x480 display, up to 1GB of memory and 80GB of disk, and respectable 5-hour battery with a 2.2-hour full recharge or 1.5-hours for 85% juice. Oh, and it measures just 218 x 163 x 25.4-mm / 8.6 x 6.4 x 1-inches and weighs about 960-grams / 2.1-pounds.
I installed Windows XP Home in English on it, but in the process I managed to unistall some of the hardware (not any serious stuff), but I am sure anyone who has a clue about computers will be able to reinstall this (I don't know much).
Price: 500 000Won. I would prefer to do the sale in person (I live in Hongdae, Seoul, but will travel a few stations), but would consider receiving a bank deposit and then mailing the laptop. |

Does the wifi still work? Which functions are disabled?
Does it have 1 GB installed?
How does it play videos? |

The Kohjisha SA1F00 ultra-mobile PC.
The Kohjinsha SA1F00 is a 2.11-pound (960g) ultra-mobile PC with a unique blend of features. The 7" screen swivels to give you access to an internal keyboard, which is more convenient than many UMPCs. The AMD Geode 500mhz isn't fast, but runs Windows XP competently, and gives a respectable 5-hour (ideal) run time to the battery. The SA1F00 also features up to 1gb of RAM and an 80gb HDD. Integrated Bluetooth 2.0, wifi, SD/SDIO/MMC memory card slot, and CF slot, all help make this an easily connected, highly useful, go-anywhere device.

that model of Kohjinsha doesn't have a touch screen. They have a trackpad and joystick. From my experience with the Vega (similar specifications; different form factor) I'd say it's plently to run XP and watch videos (Windows media player+DIVX, dude a few posts above), browse the Internet and play older games (Baldurs gate, Starcraft, Diablo 2, Jagged Alliance etc) It doesn't support Direct 3D at all.
The Geode is similar to a P3@500mhz, but the memory is modern, as is the HDD so using office will be fast, plenty fast. Just don't expect it to encode media, or do any other intensive tasks quickly.
If you're planning to spend a lot of time in the bus/subway (as I do) then it's probably better than a laptop. Also good for using in bed, if you have a main PC for the serious stuff. It weighs a kg all up so you can take it anywhere.
I'd be buying it, but I already have a UMPC sorry. |

You can go to the following website to look at pictures, I don't have time at the moment to take or post any photos.

The wifi doesn't work any more, sorry.
It doesn't have a touch screen, but it does have controls on the screen (a mouse stick, scroll buttons, display buttons (brightness) and left/right mouse button).
I bought the laptop in March at Lincos in COEX. It is still under warranty. I installed English Windows XP Home on it, and will include the CD. I haven't gotten around to install Office but I did download Open Office.
As OneWayTraffic said, it is good for watching videos in bed, taking it on the subway or playing games. I kind of wanted to use it as an external harddrive but got one from a friend a few days ago.
I am in hurry to sell it, maybe within the next two weeks! |

Thanks for the extra info. Is the WiFi issue a driver issue or a hardware failure? Do you have the original install disks for the drivers?
Cheers,

What happened with the wifi is that I installed the English Windows, and during this process the wifi got uninstalled. I didn't get cd's with the computer to reinstall the drives. It is still under warranty so I assume it can be fixed. |

Can you clarify something from that link you posted? It appears that the computer doesn't have an optical drive from the reviews (scrolling down the page). Is that so? If yes, then how did you install XP? Is the driver CD even available for the computer? I'm interested, but the lack of drivers seems a bit troubling.
Thanks,

Drivers are generally available for download although as this is a Japanese model you might have to brush up on your Japanese skills to find them. There's a user group that might have what it needs at: http://superdave.blogdns.org/superdave/FrontPage
If I didn't already have a similar machine I might be interested in this one. |

I'm sure you can find English files for the PC. You can install large files on UMPCs usually by connecting them to a desktop by WiFi(ironically enough) or a USB network cable (not a regular USB cable) or a USB external DVD. Some models of UMPCs come with a USB device cable enabling them to be used as an external HDD. |

from my experience, if you format the hard drive to install english windows then your warranty is void.
