Hypocrites.

PM me the name of the school. The FBI rejected my fingerprints, so now I can only work illegally. I need a shady hagwon like that one.

The hagwon buses with the banners so far seem to be as follows: Little America, ULS, Jung-Chul, Yang-G ELS, and Korean Herald.

I've heard many bad things about the Korean Herald hagwon chain. A teacher who had been in Korean for years told me they are one of the worst. (Surprising, because the newspaper name/association makes them sound legit.) There are a lot of these schools, too. They must be very profitable.

The standard contract handed down from company headquarters says something like, "The employee agrees not to sexually molest students." So insulting.

Also, the contract does not include pension and speaks of health insurance in very ambiguous wording, giving the impression it is NHIC, when in actuality it is near worthless private insurance that covers almost nothing.

Don't E2s have to be registered as employees and not independent contractors, and don't they legally have to be signed up with NHIC? How can a company this big get away with breaking the law for so long?

(a) Too many new employees sign the existing contract.

(b) Korea isn't exactly strong on the concept of "rule of law."

They may not be breaking the law. It depends on the contract wording. If your contract is written so that you are an independent contractor in your contract, then it is perfectly legal under current law.

It's because you can be legally registered as an employee for purposes of one statute and one agency while legally being registered as an independent contractor for another statute and agency. When government creates agencies, departments, laws and rules, there is no requirement per se that these laws and rules be consistent from statute to statute and department to department. This seems illogical but it is standard fare in the US, Korea, and around the world.

So, you can satisfy Immigration rules and still be legally registered as an independent contractor for tax, pension and health insurance purposes. This discrepancy can be changed by the National Assembly or by court decree, but not by posters on Dave's.

Actually, it depends on a few other things: what are the actual (as opposed to stated) working conditions, who is the sponsor, and a couple of other things.

Who's watching them? Imagine pics of them as they spend their hakwon fortune on double barber pole girls and company given over to authorities. Might they be kicked out too? Maybe sent to the North?

You got it all wrong and oh how naive you are! Laughing

The K-government has been running a wayguk grab and rehab program for years. It was started in the late 1990s as they saw more wayguks coming into the country. They feared for the K-collective so they started a covert wayguk monitoring and re-education program.

It is comprised of an elaborate scheme that involves bongo trucks disguised as produce selling mobile units. These are manned by crack teams of ELITE ajumas and adjoshis disguised as farmers. They patrol Korea's neighborhoods, pretending to sell produce and then nab unsuspecting foreign teachers. they drug them and toss them into the bongo trucks flat bed under the cover of the produce.

Then those foreigners are driven to a secluded island via ferry where they are put in re-education camps so they will become part of the K-collective. It has been going on for years so be careful out there wayguks..you never know.

After that they are typically FORCED to teach for pay. The horror! The horror!

Please be careful out there...you need to be mindful of your surroundings. NEVER go near a bongo truck...NEVER!!!!

Yeah, I know one who was re-educated and with some surgical alteration has gone on to find success around the world, espousing the natural appeal of "Gangnam Style." He even learned to curse about the US military like a old local. To think he once tried to teach for cash on the side and now has become one of Korea's greatest modern ambassadors....

Be aware out there, know your exits, always have an escape plan and please, please DO NOT GO NEAR BONGO TRUCKS.

There's a hovercraft with my name on it over in a little town called Busan. Also, I avoid darkened black GMC Vans with dark tinted windows. I wouldn't want to be made to work in a Noraebang or forced to become a junior loan shark parter.

Have no fear, you are not a target for that. They only re-educate white westerners and force them to take pay to teach.

You are safe from the other stuff.
