Hi Guys,
I know this has probably been done before, but the search is not working. I am wondering if any of you have any info, good or bad, about this chain of schools (YBM). I am looking at the Cheongdam branch, so any info. about them would also be great. Thanks! |

Robyn from what I have read on here YBM is a no go. It has a bad rep so I wouldn't go near it. Thats just my opinion. |

I actually worked at that branch in 2002-2003.
There seems to be a big hate on for YBM on this board much of which I think is unjustified. One difference you have too keep in mind is that YBM has company owned and franchise schools. Chungdam is a company owned school. I find this to be a big advantage because nobody at the school has the incentive to rip you off or cheat you on your contract. It is all being payed out of head office so unlike an independent school you don't have some director who will screw you over to put a few extra bucks in his pocket.
These schools are great for first timers to Korea because its a what you see is what you get contract. If you don't know the lay of the land or just don't want to fight over pay and benefits then go with them.
The teaching materials provided are pretty simple and basically mind numbing to teach but it does provide with a comprehensive teaching lesson. Basically very little prep wise but you are also limited in what you can do because you have to stick to the books.
The teachers room is tiny but the staff is generally nice and if the director is the same person he is a pretty hands off guy who will not get in your hair.
I really loved the area apku is great but it is not everyones cup of tea. It is a very expensive area but is actually a very fun place if you give it a chance and really get to know where to go.
Anywho that is my two cents, don't take too much that is said on these boards to heart as they can be very discouraging. I remember reading them before I first went to Korea and the negativity did not match up to my experience at all. If you have any more questions you want to ask me just PM me and I'll do my best. |
