Well we have to admit, we sure didn't see this one coming. There have been rumors of a higher capacity PlayStation 3 for several months now, but no one figured that the first 80GB model would drop not in Japan or the US, but South Korea. And yet that's exactly what's scheduled to go down June 16th, when the previously-denied, Euro-spec'ed PS3 (but no 20GB or 60GB models, it seems) will hit the land of Samsung and LG for a pre-tax 518,000 won -- or just $556. While we don't want to get your hopes up, we can't help but think that this move bodes well for US consumers too; after all, the 80 gigger is already through the FCC, meaning that price drops and unimaginable storage space could be right around the corner.

I'm pretty sure you can emulate the settings on a base 20GB PS3 and copy them onto a 120GB hard drive (or bigger).

No Wifi or media card reader on the base model (except for Bluetooth, obviously). But, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 'emulate the settings'.

The 20 gigger (which I have) is being phased out. Some places don't sell it at all anymore, and I know they planned to (or already did) stop producing it altogether.

I have one.

You can get it including a Blu-ray movie and an HDMI cord for 518,000 won online.

I was just out at I-park in Youngsan yesterday, where they had the launch. I wasn't there for the actual launch. I picked up a game (Blazing Angels) and a Blu-ray (Gothika). I also got the PS3 component cables. I learned that component works better through my big-ass 50" LG PDP TV, despite the fact that it has HDMI. Apparently, LG doesn't do a good job of implimenting HDMI well. It looks awesome now.

I lifted these pics from elsewhere:

Not many Blu-ray movies in Korea, but I bought 30 on E-bay, and will bring them back with me in a few weeks

Boing!!!

A few reasons why foreigners get girlfriends so easily in Korea:

Girl on the left is thinking about bringing this guy to her room salon tonight, and the money she'll be making... girl on the right is contemplating getting a 3rd nose job.

Anyway, have fun with the console mate!
