Thought Of The Day, Memorial Day Edition

From Daily Kos:

Quote:
Q: "Tony, American deaths in Iraq have reached 2,500. Is there any response or reaction from the President on that?"

MR. SNOW: "It's a number, and every time there's one of these 500 benchmarks people want something." -- White House Press Conference, 15 June 2006

Quote:
"...I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma ..." -- President George Bush, 24 September 2006

Major Wars US K. I. A. US Wounded

Revolutionary War Est 5,000 Est 6,000

War of 1812 Est 2500 Est 5,000

Civil War 215,000 Est 400,000

World War 1 53,402 64,000

WASHINGTON -
President Bush will pay tribute to America's war dead this Memorial Day with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery.

...In his Memorial Day proclamation, the president said the nation mourns those who fought and died defending freedom in
Iraq and elsewhere. He says they have set an example of strength and perseverance that gives us resolve.

Yes, the fox goes to pray in the hen house.....

I just can't get myself to be angry anymore. I really think that despite everything which points to how much this "escapade" has been a terrible thing and will be viewed for years as a "travesty" -- people make their own decisions.

Seems so many in America have voted for convenience. Have voted for puffed up patriotism and have voted for the gun and blind moral hypocricy. Voted by not protesting and not saying, "we will not be moved".

In reality it takes very few people to start a movement, a movement of change. Just takes some people in the right places to say "we will not be moved". In America, so few have shown this backbone and they've let the foxes sacrifice the chickens. I think it is too much for the chickens to protest -- they have invested too much in their own clucking and egg production.

Fortunately, the sun also rises.

DD

PS. as an aside, here is just one more report from a person who should know more than all others.......

And you can about triple that if soldiers' disease stats are introduced. Sad
