I'm going to be travelling to Seoul in the near future to start a job, and I'm looking into enrolling in a credit card for the sign-up bonuses, which hopefully I'll be able to use throughout SE Asia (convert to points for flights etc.). Any suggestions on good CC companies for Canadians, which offer incentives that would be worthwhile in the area? |
Ummm... perhaps I am a little slow here today but are you talking about choosing a Canadian card to bring over or getting a domestic card based on the bonuses?
If you are talking about a Korean CC - did you read some of the stickys and FAQs about credit cards?
More likely it will be a case of:
WILL ANY CARD WILL EVEN ACCEPT you,
NOT you choosing a card based on perks and bonuses.
If you are talking about a card from home.... be aware that here, lots of places do take them but LOTS of places won't take anything but a domestic CC. |

I was thinking more along the lines of a Canadian card that I could bring along. I didn't even think of a domestic card - thank you.
I'll be searching through the different CC threads today, but the one thing that I'll definitely have to know is which cards are *not* accepted? Any ones to stay away from? |
Visa is the prefered card. Any major department store or major hotel will take a foreign CC. Many local merchants do not like foreign CCs and will insist on cash to settle your bill or to make a purchase. If you insist on using a foreign CC to settle a bill you may very well be charged a premium for the privilage before they will accept it.
Just so you are aware.
Remember, you are NOT in Canada and the rules from home do NOT always apply here. Discriminatory practices are permitted and common.
Always have a cash backup. |
