For my own part, I put everything about Korea completely out of my mind -- like a bad dream -- when I'm not here. But I know some people continue to view and post on this site after they leave... |

The answer is no and actually apart from selling some stuff, I've already stopped using Dave's for the most part. The reason being is there are some really negative people on here. The worst ones are those who post things trying to say, "all English/native speaking teachers are...(insert stupid generalization)."
Sure I could continue to help newbies, but that's not what this forum is about anymore. It's about flaming people. So my attitude is why bother? |

Funny, I was just thinking about this. When I'm teaching at home I don't have time. I'll do a little lurking, and prolly post just as a touch-base with posters I know in the real world. Generally, though, when I'm done with Korea I'll be done with this forum.

Almost inevitably no. Certainly not the General or Job forums. I may post in the Current Events and Off-topic because occasionally - very occasionally - there's something interesting in there and it's not Korea-related. Mind you, most of the threads are deathly dull. But once Korea has no relevance to my life, it's difficult to envisage any motivation for posting.
Actually I think it's rather pathetic. Those posters know who they are....don't live in Korea any more but still post the same old dross time after time. |

I'll always have a message board to post on, I'm sure. I'm presently in the process of finding a new one, so my Dave's days are limited either way, it seems. |

I post here, though Im in Japan. The main reason though is that Im not sure my Korea days are totally over, I may return. If I ever get to the point where I know Im totally done with Korea forever I think it will be a different story. |

People who've left Korea yet continue to complain about the country are pathetic. It's like a person going to a shrink to complain year after year about how bad his seventh birthday party was. |

You seem to be saying that you only reside on one board at a time. You're monogamous that way.
I'll arrange to have myself admitted to the Betty Ford/Dave Sperling Clinic for Messageboard Addiction when I make good my escape from the RoK. For without some form of intervention, medication and round-the-clock monitoring, I doubt I'd be able to stop myself from continuing to post the same mean, disruptive, taunting, flame-baiting comments that have made my name a synonym for thuggery and harrassment here. Even from the safety & security of my future hideout, well out of harm's way and Nork missile range, the location of which only two members of this board know (one probably doesn't know he knows or has forgotten, but if he hasn't, he'll at least know to keep his big trap shut) I just know the urge to come back here and wreak online havoc will be too much to bear on my own. I'll need help and supervision.
I understand posters who come back to Dave's if they have a Korean wife or husband. Korea's still a real, tangible part of their lives, and they all tend to return to the country on visits or even to find employment. The ones that rather mystify me are those w/o Korean spouses, who have left Korea, have left teaching or whatever it was they were doing in Korea, and who still come back and chatter away hardcore on Current Events. If you have a hankering for Korea or an ongoing interest in ESL, then I could understand. But that's apparently not the case. Makes no difference to me, but surely there are millions of better messageboards for them to hang out, no? |
