|
|
I am having an item (a piece of jewelry) valued over $3K shipped to Korea via Fed Ex. I have scoured the Dave's search engine for about an hour now and have not found the advice I need. Has anyone shipped something to Korea with that value via Fed Ex?
If so:
1) How long does it take for customs to contact you?
2) How do they contact you?
3) Once I pay them duties, etc., how long until I will receive this item?
4) After I have paid, will it be shipped via Fed Ex still, or through local postal authorities?
4) Can I pick up the item from customs?
5) Will it be shipped and held at a local customs office or the main customs office (I live in Bundang and have found that the nearest customs office to me is at the Yatap station)?
6) What forms of payment are acceptable to the Korean customs department?
7) Since it is Fed Ex, will customs still open and examine the item (I really don't want them too!)?
Thank you in advance for any insight! |

I shipped a bike worth 1000$ so its similar. Also various other bike items that were over 100$....
1) How long does it take for customs to contact you?
They will call you, if you have a contact # w/Fedex. Actually, Fedex will call you and ask you to pay/ let you know the tariff so you can just pay when they drop it off.. , but it doesnt always happen this way. Otherwise, you get something in the mail.
2) How do they contact you?
See above.
3) Once I pay them duties, etc., how long until I will receive this item?
Again, if you have a contact #, they will call you and inform you of the duty and deliver it to you w/in a day or 2. Do you have the tracking number? If so, you can see if it has made it to Seoul or not and if so, you can call them and tell them you will pay them back the tariff when they deliver it.
4) After I have paid, will it be shipped via Fed Ex still, or through local postal authorities?
I think in my case, Fedex or UPS or whoever I was using had a domestic contractor to do the final deliver.
4) Can I pick up the item from customs?
Its possible to just tell Fedex to take it to customs and you'll pay there.. But not necessary.
5) Will it be shipped and held at a local customs office or the main customs office (I live in Bundang and have found that the nearest customs office to me is at the Yatap station)?
Again, if you communicate with Fedex, they'll do take it to the local office...
6) What forms of payment are acceptable to the Korean customs department?
cashee
7) Since it is Fed Ex, will customs still open and examine the item (I really don't want them too!)?
Its possible... they reserve the right to. |

You've got a lot of faith... No way I'd ship a piece of jewelry worth that much through the mail. Heck, I wouldn't own a piece of jewelry worth that much. Hope it works out for you... |
