I found the number to the Labor Board (nothing juicy, just wanted to check something) and I phoned 1350. The further instruction in postings on Dave's boards was to press "7" for English, but I keep getting a live person and I'm told that there is nobody there able to speak in English.
What's going on? I don't even get a menu to press "7", so I'm not sure what's happening.
Is there another number now?

Are you dialing from a handphone or perhaps an inside line from work (do you need to dial something different for an outside line?)
The instructions from the MOLAB website are still,
"Call 1350 from anywhere without dialing a local number and select a counseling area following voice instructions and you will be connected to a counselor.
After you get through to 1350, press 7 for English and 8 for Chinese. Then you will be connected to a counselor who provides service in each language.
Phone counseling service is available from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 18:00."

You can also try the MOLAB foreign worker office (although their primary concern is migrant workers).

Thanks, ttompatz.
I am calling from my place of work, but I'm dialing 9 to get out, so I don't know what the issue is.
I'll surf around your suggested site and try again from home.
Thanks again,

Maybe your workplace has put a block on calling the labor board cause they know that many people want to call them. I just tried calling 1350 from my home line and cell phone. There was a recording in Korean followed by a recording in English. |

I called it a couple of times. First time, I got someone who spoke no English...at all...on the English line.
Second time, I got someone with passable English but who didn't know or couldn't find the law/policy concerning my question.
I haven't tried since. |

You must be right, polonius, I managed to get them from my home line. Now, when I'm continuing to whinge a bit, I'll have to mention that I can't phone the Labor Board from my work phone - you know, "By the by,..." - just to see what kind of eyebrows that raises. I'm not hoping for much, though.
Anyway, their assistance is a work in progress, so we'll see what the other phone numbers they've given me amount to.
